No weight lost this week....????

Recommended Posts

Im almost 4 weeks post op. Ok...this might be TMI but I need help. I got on the scale today like an idiot. I wasn't suppose to weigh myself until Thursday. Anyway...I have only lost a 1 lb. in the last week. I've been working out everyday and eating almost nothing. I have popped in maybe almost a week. What do you think? My goal is to lose at least 5 lbs per week.

Well I know there's the dreaded 3 week stall. Dont get discouraged. Think of it this way there's no way you can't loose weight with the amount of food we eat. I remember my Dr telling me that your body will try and hold on to the weight because it thinks its starving. But it can only hold on to it for so long. I would also try taking maybe milk of magnesia to help you with the #2 problem. I'm almost 4 mounts out and don't go to the bathroom very much also. Good luck to you!

I lost 30 pounds the first three weeks, and then 4 pounds the next three weeks, so I was very disappointed with that, but this week I am starting my full exercise. My surgeon told me that was completely normal, and says that I should start seeing an increase in weight loss again with intense exercise, but to only expect 2-3 pounds per week. So I have had to adjust my expectations a bit. She also told me that I need to increase my calories and try to hit 800 calories per day now that I am going to be exercising more. She told me that your weight loss slows down if your calories are too low and the key to losing weight is finding the right balance of exercise and calories. I also had issues with Constipation, but that got much better these last two weeks as I have tried to eliminate Protein Shakes and get my Protein from real food.< /p>

Thanks you guys soooo much!!! I will take all the help I can get. I don't even think I'm getting 600 calories a day. So I definitely need to do better. Maybe the will help with the weight lost....now I need to have a BM. This is crazy. The surgery doesn't just change your body but your entire life style. I already knew this bit now I guess it is actually sinking in.

You know..I found your post really interesting because of the last line. You are right..this surgery changes your whole life and while you can read and read and talk to people and go to support groups and think you are prepared for the changes to come..the truth is..until you LIVE AND BREATHE IT..you don't know.

Like you..I thought I would lose 5 to 6 pounds a week and be at goal in 2 months. I thought I will just eat 500 calories a day and all will be right with the world. But until I got that reality check that 5 pounds a week is probably not realistic and that 500 calories a day is not what will work for ME..I didn't really know.

My point is and it is easy for me to say this..but this is truly a journey which begins with the first step and every day is a new leg. Don't stress over the number..don't get discouraged with the diet or whatever you choose to call it..experience your life..just differently :)

I really don't know why I thought I could lose 5 lbs a week. When I went for my post io I asked the surgeon how much I should lose by the next visit I believe she said 10-15 lbs. But for some reason I thought she said 15-20 lbs. I'm starting to ask myself what more realistic and to focus on that goal. This is rough and it's only the beginning. ????

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Seems it would be more compassionate not to perform a WLS on someone until they are mentally ready for it. Unless of course they are on death's door...

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
