Had 1st fill today

Recommended Posts

I am so excited that I had my first fill today and it went fine. Doctor put 3 cc in 10 cc band (I felt the saline a little bit-weird), didn't get any lidocane, didn't need it and it didn't really hurt at all. Stayed there to sip a cup of Water to make sure there was no blockage and then off I went to work. I do feel restriction, like if I eat to fast I feel it in my throat. I have to be on mushies for a day. Thanks to everyone for your support while I was anxious about getting my first fill.

Congrats on your 1st fill!

I'm looking forward to mine...I won't have my first fill until February 12th.

I was just banded 1 week ago and now it seems that I'm having almost NO restriction at all! My doc had me eating "regular" food right away (no liquids, purées, or mushies). I chew well & eat very slowly & everything goes down without any problem. But it still seems like I'm able to eat a lot in comparison to others here. For example, today to see how much it took before feeling full, I had a tuna sandwich, yogurt & applesauce. I couldn't believe it!

I suppose I'll need to be patient until my fill.

Don't worry Carebear I was starving 2 weeks postop. It took a lot of self-control to watch what I ate before I went for my first fill. Hang in there and once you get your first fill you'll feel the change already. Good luck.

Just remember that sometimes a fill doesn't kick in until a week or so later. Don't let up your guard. chew, chew, chew. Also, foods that you could eat you might not be able to eat after a fill. Everyone is different, but each fill is different as well. I could eat scrambled eggs for 3-4 months, but now don't chance them.

Most of us are on liquids/mushies for several days after a fill. Each doctor is different, but I wouldn't rush back to solids. Give the stomach a chance to reduce swelling before introducing solid foods.

After surgery and before your first fill, its like you have the tool, but its not working. Someone compared it to a tire without the air. Most surgeons want you to go through liquids/mushies and then solids to give your stomach a chance to heal after surgery. Although its surprising that Carebear can eat solids, its even more surprising that you can eat bread. I can't eat bread and I don't have much problem with most foods. Like I said everyone is different.

Good luck to you all as you continue on your journey.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
