Are you talking about staples on the inside or outside?

You will get varying answers from different doctors, patients, web sites, etc. The important thing is to follow YOUR post-op guidelines for introducing foods.....that is what YOUR surgeon feels is best for proper healing with minimal possibility of problems.

I've been told it takes six weeks to fully heal, why I'm now on pureed foods til that time. Also why they have me eating only pureed, they don't want to much food in there as once, keep the stomach acids at a min to aid in healing

Staples take 4-6 weeks to heal. Until then you should be on a restricted diet of puree foods. If you eat solid foods within this timeframe, you risk "pushing" a staple out of place, which will eventually cause leakage

Also, no fruit or acid products, bc it deteriorate the stsples before it heals. Same with alcohol.

It’s crazy how all doctors are different. I’m two weeks post be three weeks next Wednesday and my doctor and Nutrionist have their patients go straight to soft foods. No purée

My doctor has us do 1 week liquids post off then two of pure/soft food. I had a visit with him 1 week after surgery and since i've had no issues he told me i don't need to see him for four months. seems like so long

My doctor said 6 weeks is the average time frame for healing but to baby it for 12 weeks. So no popcorn, nuts, seeds until 12 weeks or so. Anything that can cause an issue.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
