Team Bariatrics in my area requires a 3 month program before they will do weight loss surgery. My insurance will cover the costs and there is no waiting period! I'm ready to do this now rather that later! Are there doctors out there that will just do it instead of making me wait it out? Or should I just stick with what I've got step up for now, Nov. 7 is the earliest that I could get it done thur that place. I really would love to find a doctor that does the procedure thur the belly button also if anyone else has had this done and could recommend a doctor. I live in Indiana but would consider to travel in the US for the right doctor.

i live in Florida...My 1st app with my surgeon was may 2nd, my insurance required psicological evaluation, letter of recommendation from my Dr. and nutritionist consultation, I got them done last month, my pre op was last week on July 8th and my surgery is schedule for Tuesday July 16th. I am glad I didn't have to wait longer.

That's pretty much all my insurance requires also. I just can't find a place around here that will do the surgery sooner! They can't even get me in until Aug. 7th so that's when my 3 months start. Don't really want to wait until November for surgery!

The way I see it, the time is going to pass either way. My surgery won't be until the end of the year--maybe next year-- and I am accepting of that. Just going to use this time to better prepare myself, physically and mentally, for this surgery. Either way, hope you get in sooner :)

I have thought about it and maybe 3 months is a good thing... I will have more time to research and prepare! I'm hoping it will fly by. Good luck to everyone:)

I waited almost a year. It was a long wait, but gave me time to prepare for the lifestyle change.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
