So it's finally here! My surgery is tomorrow! a bunch of mixed feelings but overall very excited! Are there any suggestions for what I should pack for my one night stay? also has anyone had to remove there acrylic nails? No one has said anything to me about it, the preadmission nurse even complimented them the other day! Finally starting to explore this app and know it will come in handy through out my process! please send good vibes my way! ;-*

I packed light. Front closing wireless bra, clean underwear, socks, brush, tooth brush, deodorant, sleep shorts ( I stayed in their gown due to incision leakage) gas x and Chapstick. I also had my mini iPad for when I was not sleeping or walking. They gave me toiletries to shower with and a clean gown. Some people don't shower in the hospital though. All of it fit in a small tote.

Hopefully that helps :)

I did have to remove my acrylic nails. They told me when they called to give my surgery time. I wasn't sure and didn't ask if I had to take all or just the pointer where they check your oxygen. I hadn't had them off for ten yrs so it was probably good to give my nails a rest. I didn't put them back on for 3 wks but that was my choice.

Good luck to everyone tomorrow!

I was told no polish, not sure about acrylics.

Had to remove mine 3 yrs ago when I started working for a hospital :(

But with all this Protein the last couple of months my nails are growing like crazy.

My instructions say no nail polish, but its okay to leave acrylics on. My nurse said clear polish is okay.

I have gel nails that are long like acrylics but I was told polish is fine as long as its a half-tip... just like a french.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
