ShrinkyDinkMe101 82 Posted July 14, 2013 Long time lurker here! I had my first consultation with my surgeon, Dr. Yu, last Thursday and my surgery is scheduled for August 6th. I live in Oklahoma, but am traveling to Houston in order to have the single incision (belly button) surgery. I've started back on the Medifast foods I had left over from my last failed dieting attempt this spring and will do a two week liquid diet before surgery. Most of my family and friends are on board with my decision to have the gastric sleeve. My husband, a physician, is not happy about it. He thinks I should buckle down, eat paleo and do cross fit. He's also said that I will probably put the weight back on....grrrrr! I'm excited/nervous/scared about the changes this surgery will bring. I enjoy playing tennis, antique/junk "treasure hunting" & traveling and am looking forward to living life without carrying around an extra person on my back! 1 ChaoticBliss reacted to this
cdunn 45 Posted July 14, 2013 I have seen this procedure. How did you get set up with this doctor? I in Indiana and can't find a doctor close that does the one incision procedure so I'm interested in finding a doctor that does. If you don't mind me asking how do you do your appointments with you living in another state?
ShrinkyDinkMe101 82 Posted July 14, 2013 I traveled to Houston for the consultation. I am self-pay, so I did their nutrition class online & I will have an endoscopy and psych evaluation locally. I'll return to Houston the day before surgery for the rest of it and will remain there for a week afterward. This surgeon is very reasonable ($13,800) for self-pay, and patients travel there from all over the country.
cdunn 45 Posted July 14, 2013 Thanks for the info! Good luck with your journey:)
cdunn 45 Posted July 14, 2013 One more question... Did you have to wait any certain length of time? My insurance will pay but the place I go to has a 3 month waiting period. I was wanting it done sooner then November.
ShrinkyDinkMe101 82 Posted July 15, 2013 I did not have to wait to schedule. I am just required to complete the endoscopy and psych evaluation before my pre-op appt the day before surgery. Thanks for the well wishes!
ShrinkyDinkMe101 82 Posted July 16, 2013 Endoscopy & psych evaluation scheduled for next week! I was worried about getting them in on time. Sugar withdrawal headaches are gone, caffeine is next to go.
