taylormarie421 75 Posted July 14, 2013 My doctor only requires me to do a liquid diet the day before? Is this normal? How will I know my liver is okay for surgery?

Richard Foor 655 Posted July 14, 2013 More and more of the surgeons are getting rid of the 2 week preop diet, apparently the current studies are showing it doesn't make much of a difference. Good Luck. 1 muhsi1 reacted to this
Lorie269 392 Posted July 15, 2013 My pre-op diet is the same as yours. liquids the day before. At first, I was worried since it seems everyone else has a 1 or 2 week diet but now I see it as a blessing. Good luck to you! 1 muhsi1 reacted to this
muhsi1 19 Posted July 15, 2013 Hi all, I have got a low fat diet and I am trying to follow it as much as possible. I will also do just liquids the day before, just as it seems the sensible thing to do. I spoke to many surgeons and theatre staff and they are of the opinion that it does not make much difference. Think of it, when one needs to go for a splenectomy or have their gall bladder removed by laproscopic sugery, those patients do not have special diets. Anyway best to follow your surgeon's recomendations, so that is what I am trying to do.
Ima Loser 197 Posted July 15, 2013 My surgeon only required the liquid the day before and nothing after 7pm (my surgery was at 7am)... However I started a pre-op diet on my own. I replaced Breakfast with a Protein Shake starting 3 weeks out (this helped me find one I liked post surgery) and at two week pre-op I cut out most fat and carbs....
