BBBarbie 18 Posted July 14, 2013 Nope they told me I wasn't required to see a nutritionist pre op . And I'm now almost 6 days post op and still haven't been mentioned Protein ' date=' all he said was clear liquid .[/quote'] Oh honey. Idk what this doc is thinking but get yourself some Protein shakes either per mixed or the powder & mix them yourself. They even have fruity ones if you don't like the creamy ones (called Nectar). (Most say between 60-90 grams a day) You will feel so much better. I find if I haven't had my Protein throughout the day I feel weak emotionally & physically. You'll be ok. Keep your head up itll be over before you know it. I'd look at some of the NUT boards on here there's lots of good info since your doc didn't think it was necessary to give you all the nutritional info
No game 14,437 Posted July 14, 2013 I've seen other doctors do the same thing the first week. There have been people here that have the same thing (no protein) so it's not unheard of. I little weird I think though! Did they (the hospital) send discharge instructions home with you? Usually the paperwork will tell you what to do. 1 BBBarbie reacted to this

The past day in a half I've just been moody and sad and crying for no reason ugh Didn't your surgeon or surgeons office give you a plan to go by? A list of foods you can eat and when? Before surgery or after. You couldn't have been operated on then sent home with no further instructions than "liquids only".
BBBarbie 18 Posted July 14, 2013 Just wondering....are you taking your Vitamins? Did they tell you to take vitamins & which kinds to take? B12 would help with the tears they say.

You couldn't have been operated on then sent home with no further instructions than "liquids only". All it says in the "discharge instruction sheet" is : A clear liquid diet must be followed the first week after surgery or until you have your appt with your surgeon (which is Thursday) drink 4oz of clear liquid each out sipped slowly 48-64 oz each day for adequate hydration. Important to sip not gulp, any liquids you can see through without particles are ok. Then it gives me examples Then the last thing it says is when I schedule my appt with my surgeon ill be asked to me with nurse and dietitian to discuss what I'll be allowed to eat following that appointment . You were never given any instructions before you were operated on?
nagem 73 Posted July 14, 2013 What about prior to surgery? You were never given any instructions before you were operated on? No I was not . Only to do what my insurance required which was a 5 year weight history from doctor and the usual EKG , chest X-rays and bloodwork . I went to the seminar for this the beginning of may and had surgery beginning of July .. Happened fast

Did you get information before hand on the complications of this surgery and what to watch out for after surgery?

He never discussed . I mean I kind of knew what to expect a little bit because my mother had the gastric bypass done a few years ago . But I know where your coming from , the day before my surgery I was freaking out worrying that I should have quit smoking or been on a diet or been taking Protein . SpaceDust 585 Posted July 14, 2013 Well, if you have a GNC or Vitamin Shoppe somewhere nearby, or some other similar store, the Isopure clear drinks will fit your liquids diet retirements (they ate absolutely clear of particles and they aren't thick) and they have 40 grams of Protein in each 20 oz bottle. They're expensive, no lie, but a bottle a day might help you get through the rest of your Clear Liquids. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 using VST

TexasRed1978 17 Posted July 14, 2013 I feel you. I'm on a 3 week liquid diet, and he means liquids, no jell-o, yogurt, pudding, etc. I have 3 more days to go and I am soooooooooooooo ready to move on the soft foods.
TexasRed1978 17 Posted July 14, 2013 Thank you ! Now does anyone have recommendations for heartburn ? I'm sure I'm not aloud to suck on a tums lol I was given a prescription for pepcid, (I have to crush it). Call your doctor and ask about it or if there is something over the counter y ou can take. I second the Isopure. They gave that to me in the hospital on day 2.
DeniseM 238 Posted July 14, 2013 The Isopure to me had a very strong taste, the way I was able to drink it was by mixing it half Water, half Isopure and adding a splash of juice. I used coconut Isopure and added a splash of Orange Tangerine Juicy Juice. I tried to convince myself it was a tropical drink One time I blended some coconut Isopure in the blender with ice and added a splash of juice and it came out like a slushy, but I didn't tolerate really cold foods well, so I couldn't finish it. But if you like really cold drinks, you might want to try that too for something different. Anyway, Isopure is clear, so you would be following your dr's orders, and the Protein will make you feel better.
