How do the doctors judge by one's sleeve size? I hear some folks say how small theirs are and others say the opposite. Is there a certain size per person or the persons weight.

I have a larger than typical sleeve. Not because of any decision made by my doctor but because I have a rather long stomach for someone of my height. The doctors can control how tight they make your sleeve but ain't nuttin' they can do about the length! The doctor used a 32 Fr bougie and it is "tight" but because it's longer than average, I can hold a greater volume of food.

Also if someone has very bad Gerd, the doc may choose to do a larger sleeve in order to help control acid reflux. Other doctors like to make the sleeves slightly larger because it reduces the chance of strictures.

Oh, that's good to know. I am very tall, in fact too tall for the belly button version of the surgery. So now I know why I can eat 5-6 ounces at a time. I thought I was odd.

The only reason I know my size is because I read it in my operative report. He used a size 40! Now I always thought that was large but I have such restriction, when I'm full, I'm full! Much less complication rate with a larger size and he overs-sees the staple line so when he is done, my stomach is the size of a highlighter marker. I've list over 45 lbs in 13 weeks...35 more pound till goal!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
