momo23 21 Posted July 13, 2013 I'm 17 days post op and I can drink 12 oz of Gatorade/ water/ broth in an hour. That seems really fast. Is this okay?

jsrmanatee 51 Posted July 13, 2013 i'm 32 days post-op and i can only get about 3 swallows down at a time. it takes me a couple of hours to drink 32 oz of liquid. maybe call the nutritionist. she might tell you that even if you can drink that fast, maybe you shouldn't. or she may say it's fine. i don't know, but i do know i can't drink that amount that fast. maybe i'm going too slow??? lsereno 2,525 Posted July 13, 2013 Yes, everyone heals differently and it doesn't reflect what your final restriction will be. Some people have less swelling or the swelling goes down faster and they can sip faster and eat a tiny bit more at first. You are going to do great! ProudGrammy 8,322 Posted July 13, 2013 17 days post op - drink 12 oz of Gatorade/ water/ broth in an hour. - seems really fast. Is this okay? mom023 congrats on being 17 days post op if memory serves me correctly, at your present/early stage - you need/should drink slowly your new tummy is healing from major surgery - be nice to it - and it will return the favor talk to your NUT/surgeon about the water/liquid question she will guide you about sipping, and eventually gulping I "think" 16 oz in an hour sounds great - as long as you drink slowly Many people on the board have problems getting liquids in at this early part of the game many OP have continue to have post op problems w/drinking Water consider yourself luck continued good luck with your recovery kathy 1 TwinsMama reacted to this

momo23 21 Posted July 13, 2013 Thank y'all!!! And you have no problems with doing that?
sharonintx 1,275 Posted July 14, 2013 It takes me nearly all day to drink a 32 oz tea from Sonic. I can eat much easier than I can drink. It was my understanding that drinking while eating was out because the liquid would flush the food right out and you would take in more calories because of it. Not happening that way for me. For me all the drinking seems to do is take up space that the food is supposed to occupy. It really is true that everyone reacts very differently to being sleeved. I learn more each day. Drinking and eating are no good for me either. I have made the mistake of taking a few sips after I was done eating and the extra liquid made me feel too full and uncomfortable. I didn't take into account that the liquid would take up that much room. When I drink straight liquid, it goes through quickly and doesn't bother me but together with food, can't happen
momo23 21 Posted July 14, 2013 That's so interesting how it affects everyone so differently. Yeah drinking doesn't bother me one bit. I haven't started eating yet so I'm not sure how that will go.
Nursebarbie 392 Posted July 14, 2013 Initially post op sips but never gulp or take more than 5 seconds per swallow. Let's too much air in and it will hurt.
