Protein - liquid phase

Recommended Posts

Hey all. I had my surgery on July 3rd and it has been a rough road. I have had horrible nausea and really been able to keep very little down. I think we finally have the nausea under control, but I cannot have milk products as I seem to be sensitive to those now. I bought some of the Isopure drinks at GNC and I can't even smell them without wrenching. I would really like to figure how to get some Protein in this phase, as I tired and weak. Any suggestions for good Protein Drinks that I might be able to try?

Are you on only clear Protein? I know those clear Isopure drinks are putrid, but they have so much protein. It's the after-taste that kill you. I drink them while holding my nose, and i keep holding it for about a minute afterwards, until the smell passes. I've heard Unjury: chicken Soup and the unflavored kind are decent (I've ordered some - surgery on Friday - Clear Liquids for the first 10 days). I plan on mixing it with the Water zero flavored drink which I quite like. I pray I don't have an aversion to milk and the like - I love milk- that would be a great loss. Good luck

Have you tried unflavored Protein in juice, Soup (not hot, as the Protein denaures in anything over 130), crystal lite, even Jello? 4 yrs ago when I was banded, I spent $180 on GNC.com. Hated everything, including the Isopures. My nurse told me they tasted like Jolly Ranchers. Not sure where she gets her Jolly Ranchers but they tasted nothing like them. They're pure ick. This was before I found out that gnc.com has a taste guarantee. Could've been refunded all that money that was wasted. It's also guaranteed at the store. So if you don't like what you purchased, you can take it back.

I recently bought a sampler order of 11 different flavors from Syntrax nectar (bjsbariatrics.com). In it were numerous flavors that should be mixed with Water (strawberry kiwi, Roadside Lemonade, tropical paradise, etc).

Good luck!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
