How to avoid PBing: what works for me

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I want to share my protocal for avoiding PBing for anyone who has a problem with it. Before implementing this system, I was PBing anywhere from 1-2 times per week (and sometimes even twice in one day!). Since following this system, I have not PB'd in over four weeks!

By following 3 very simple rules, I seemed to have found my "magic bullet" for avoiding PB's:

1. liquids only for Breakfast. NO solids. I usually have a Protein shake called "Alive" which is a whole food Multivitamin and has 22 grams of Protein when made with milk.

2. "Soft" or "easy" lunch at around 3:00pm, in tiny tiny bites and chewed forever. I usually eat chili, lentils, cottage cheese/fruit, Soup, etc. Anything that is personally easy for me to eat. Yesterday I had soft cooked homemade ravioli and tender pork. Whatever is easy for you to eat.

3. Every night: one to two glasses of wine before dinner. This works like a charm. It opens everything up and relaxes the system so dinner goes down well. I eat whatever I want for dinner but always make sure to take small bites and chew very well.

That's it! Let me know if you give it a try. It's been a great plan for me. Good luck!

I've just started doing something similar. I PB almost everyday, but since I've started my new plan it has almost stopped. (except when I forget my new rules)

1. Start day with hot liquid (tea or coffee)

2. Liquids until lunch. (protein shake)

3. Soft lunch (soup, yogurt, Pasta, etc.)

4. Early dinner (4:30ish) Sip hot water/tea when feel golfballs

5. Hot liquid before bed.

I've also learned that my band doesn't like potatoes unless they are creamy mashed potatoes.

I agree, I have to start out with liquids in the morning or I have trouble all day. Hot/warm liquids work best. But I still PB everyone once in a while.

I thought this thread was worth resurecting since I am banded now!!! And I'd like to avoid PBing.

What do you all do to avoid PBing???

Thanks,Audree

Wine before dinner works for me too, lol.

I dont PB as a general rule, in fact I had my first one last week after 13 months of being banded. But I do get blocked and uncomfortable and slime sometimes and its ALWAYS the same things - first few bites of dinner, if I'm eating out, or with others and not concentrating. Which is exactly what happened this time and I hadnt had my glass of wine either, it arrived at the table late.

Know your triggers I guess, and avoid them if possible. If I take insanely small bites and chew really really well for the first five bites or so I'll be fine. If I dont then I have trouble.

I wish that I had found this site 2 months ago. I introduced myself 4 days ago with the problem of frequent daily 'vomitting'. I was given great advice about warm liquids and going back to 'mushies'. I have followed a routine similar to that outlined here. Consequently, I have not PB'd for 4 days.( I also have thought, in the past, that wine seems to help)

My concern is ...have I already caused damage to my band after 2 months of making trips to the bathroom, several times a day,to bring up food? How can I tell?:omg:

I think the best way to prevent PBs is to not maintain too tight of restriction in your band. If you PB regularly, and *especially* if you also are relying on liquids/mushies for much of the day, then you're probably too tight. Get an unfill, eat solid, healthy foods, and work *with* your band, instead of against it!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
