spiritedcowgirl63 108 Posted July 13, 2013 I'll be seeing the surgeon next week to ask this, but I was wondering what is the length of time off to get back to activities prior to surgery? I have a horse camping trip with my own horse with trail riding I made a year ago? Surgery is July 22nd and trip is Aug 3-4th. Any thoughts?
Richard Foor 655 Posted July 13, 2013 Well that's almost 2 weeks, so you will probably be able to get around but will most likely get tired very easily. I personally started back to work about 2 weeks out, I am a paramedic so kind of a physical job, did ok but would be very tired by the end of a shift. Good Luck. Rachel 28 Posted July 13, 2013 I was told not to lift anything over 10 pounds and no vigorous activity. I'm only 5 days out so I don't know if that will change at my two week follow up or if I'll have to wait longer. But I'd definitely consider horse back riding to be a vigorous activity. Susmcmur 124 Posted July 13, 2013 How old are you? Younger, more active folks seem to bounce back easier. I was 53 when I had surgery and didn't feel really up for much more than walking until 6 weeks out. I'm now 15 months out and can do whatever I want, but I remember the tiredness and weakness early on.
MIJourney 490 Posted July 13, 2013 I was told to hold off on exercise that involved the "core" for 6 weeks.
KitKat40 100 Posted July 13, 2013 I was told only walking for now 6 weeks before I can go to core work outs ... I just came home from the hospital last night & all I've had the strength to do is walk around the house for a few mins and I sit .....
