I started my journey on May 20th 2013. My highest weight was 385lbs and I am 5'5. I've seen the phychatrist twice and the dietician once so far. I had all my blood work done and did both of my required support group meetings. I just had my endoscope yesterday. I've met with my surgeon already as well. So now I have one more appointment with the dietician next week. Hopefully then I will get a date. About six years ago, I fell out of the shower. Long story short. I ended up with 3 herniated discs and nerve damage in my left leg and foot. Growing up I was always over weight but since I got hurt this is my highest. Before I would level off between 303 - 333 lbs. I tried weight watchers which did work but I gained it back. I tried several diets with no long term success. So here I am. Now in this stage of the game I've been trying new Protein and Vitamin products to find the ones I can tolerate. I think I have that down. I would like to do a utube video. I tried once already but I didn't post it. I'm not that comfortable in front of the camera. Thank you for listening to my story. I'm excited that I found this app. I hope to learn a lot from everyone.

Welcome. Enjoy the journey it's not always easy but it gets better as time goes, stay positive as much as possible. It's great to try the Protein products before hand, but I don't recommend buying a bunch of anything before surgery because most people (myself included) experience changes in there tastes after the surgery. I have seen many posts on here about people who bough a bunch of a certain protein they liked preop and then couldn't stand it post op. Good Luck.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
