How fast do you drink your protein shakes?

Recommended Posts

I am PO Day 17 and I was wondering how long it takes others to drink their shakes? I mix mine with 8 oz milk and feel like it takes me forever! Maybe I am being too conservative! Thoughts?

I drink and eat very slowly. I actually use a stopwatch app on my phone and take a sip of whatever I am drinking every five minutes. So, drinking a Protein Shake usually takes me an hour. I found that using the timer helps me to not drink too fast so that I get too full, and it reminds me to keep sipping all day long and I usually have no problems getting in my daily fluids.

Yes, it takes me 30 minutes and I mix mine with almond milk, it's good and less calories than milk.

Is there a specific brand of almond milk you like or would suggest?

Ready to drink Protein Drinks took forever just because of taste and texture and I have no problems getting liquids down (except water).

If I have a Protein Shake now I use 8 oz of skim milk and Unjury Protein Powder. Those I can drink at the same rate I could pre-surgery.

My Dr said it's not a problem to drink at same rate as pre-surgery if it works for me.

Granted it didn't work this way at first but has increased over time.

It takes me forever...I'm only 10 days post op and can do about 4 oz at a time so takes me at least half a day to get one shake down. Part of that is the fact that I don't like them. I try for 4 oz every 2 hours with Water in between.

I use Silk Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk or Almond Breeze Unsweetened Vanilla Almond Milk.

The Almond Breeze unsweetened almond milk has only 40. Cals in a cup

At the phase you are currently at it should take at least a half hour to drink a shake, as time goes by and the healing continues inside it will get easier and before you know it you will be drinking faster. Good Luck.

I see posts like this and wonder if my doc really sleeved me!! shakes make me really sick, so I actually just ordered a sample pack of Syntrax Nectar, but anyway, I can drink crystal light and other Clear Liquids pretty quickly. I can take decent size swallows and not have it hurt. I can also eat a whole hard boiled egg all mashed up (I'm in purée stage) in a half hour and be comfortable. I was just sleeved July 3 '13. I can also comfortably eat egg drop Soup (or something similar) a cup or so over an hour. Should I be able to do this?! I've lost 18lbs in the 9 days since surgery, but I'm worried once I start eating solids that I'm not going to have restriction!

That doesn't make the shake too thick or Vitamin tasting? I've wondered about that.

I use either Kroger brand or blue diamond has a brand that's good I just make sure it says plain, cuz they come in vanilla which has more sugars in in it. The almond milk at Walmart is located right by the milk. And require to be in the fridge. Good luck!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
