I am tired and with upper back pain

Recommended Posts

Two weeks into the second phase of food, I am feeling extremely tired mostly in the afternoons and with a upper back pain (into the ribs area) which I never had before surgery. My doctor said the tiredness can be lack of hydration and the back pain can be due to changes into my posture due to the loss of weight. Any idea. I can barely move in the afternoons and the worst thing is that I am a wedding photographer and my jod is mostly in the afternoon and night.

I'm not sure what could be causing your back pain, but are you taking your Vitamins and B12? The lack could cause fatigue. Good luck!

I had terrible upper back pain (my only pain)in hospital. This is the only reason I take pain medicine. Now it is mainly in morning and in evening. Sometimes during the day, but the med makes me tired so I try not to take it.

I sit up in a chair, walk, and lay down.. still doesn't help.

9days PO

I also have pain in my upper back - mostly across the back not the front. My understanding is that it is the gas that was used during our surgery working it's way out. I also only get it at certain times - don't have it all the time. So, I think what you are experiencing will eventually go away.

I had the same pain you describe. It was gas. I didn't think that was possible but I had it for a very long time. Now at almost 6 weeks out, I no longer have it. But it took a good 4 weeks before the back pain stopped.

Wow...that long for gas to leave, but it makes sense.

Thanks ladies

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
