I had my surgery on Monday, July 8th so that makes me five days post-op. Anyway, I noticed last night around 8:00 pm that I have a bruise about the size of the palm of my hand over by my belly button. It wouldn't be from the heparin injections because those were administered in my thighs. Anyway, I was wondering what this is from and if I should be concerned.

Is that where one of your incision sites are? It's normal to get bruising near those areas if there was any trauma to the area! While I didn't have any bruising with my sleeve, my LapBand removal had a ton of bruising around my former port area - they had to fight that sucker to remove it from my muscle wall!

Yeah, I do have an incision right by the bruise.

I'd recommend calling your doctor anyway, especially if the bruise grows or looks odd (at 5 days out, it should be done "bruising" at this point), but my money would be on what I said above. Good luck!

Okay, something just occurred to me that is a little embarrassing to admit. The embarrassing part is that I didn't think of this sooner. I did a lot of walking yesterday and during all that walking the waistband of my pants really irritated that area. Now I'm thinking that the bruise was caused by that irritation.

Hi Rachel,

I too bruised a lot after my band was removed, but not with the sleeve surgery done 11 days ago. EXCEPT.... One incision (I've just posted a thread 2 minutes ago....have a read)

Is around the bruise hard?

No, it's not hard.

Well I think that's a good sign.

If it was hard, I was thinking you had what I had.

Don't worry too much about it.

When my band was removed, most of my left side of my tummy was bruised, but faded quickly.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
