BK - I was banded on the 14th and get to go to solids TOMORROW! (4 weeks out).

Kay - MOM is wonderful, but it certainly messes my system up for a day or so. If you don't take enough for how much you're "full" nothing happens. If you take too much, you get a complete blowout, your whole system just gurgles, and you visit the bathroom A LOT. I've used it a couple of times since surgery and it's been a big help, but don't do it if you can't be near a bathroom! It's not like you're not going to get to the bathroom in time, it's not that bad, but you'll have to go quite a bit.

Hey everyone....on the food question I think every doc is different just like some docs do fills at 4 wks and some at 6 wks.

I think the weight loss stalls because we are just naturally eating more....because the band needs a fill.

Just an update on the fill experience.....no flouro or xray....my doc found it right off.....only one stick too......but around evening time my port area was so damn sore... I was really hating life....but better today....sorry so short....screaming kids in the backround....bottles and naps for everyone!

ok, because i'm pissed now. I emailed my real dr. dr. weiner about having a fill. He writes back, "it is better to lose weight with no fill, when weightloss stops, come in for fill, better for long term results"

makes a little sense to me, but i did not spend 5k to starve!!! since they don't weigh me, i guess i could just write back and say wieghtloss has stopped?

Sweethot, you've just had the worst luck! I can't believe they're doing crazy stuff to you yet again. I'd DEFINITELY tell them the weight loss has stopped, you're starving, and insist on a fill in a reasonable time frame!

sweethot - thats what I would say.

I went to solids aka regular food at 4 weeks. I have felt fine. Dr says now that I'm eating regular food I should stay full longer - not. If I only eat the 1/2 cup I'm hungry again in an hour or 2. I told the dr that waiting for the fill was almost as bad as waiting to hear from the insurance company. He said aw now its not THAT bad - I said yeah thats easy for you to say.

Annie, I bet you're psyched to be on Real foods!! I only had to do liquids for 1 week, mushies for 1 week, then real foods.

SweetHot, I would call back and tell them you haven't lost and that you can eat way more than a cup at a time and that you NEED a fill!

Mystique, sorry you didn't pass your driving test...but next time for sure! :)

So all of you on real foods, what were the first things you tried? I'm so used to yogurt and cottage cheese, I don't even know where to start!!! :)

Mystique - I forgot to tell you sorry you didn't pass but I didn't my first time either and then when we had moved out of state DH failed his too. Don't let it get you down - just go back tomorrow and try again.

Annie - When I was on mushies it was slash soft foods so I started eating casseroles and lasagna, spaghetti - my dr said anything you could eat if you didn't have teeth. I heard some say raviolios - the chef boyardee kind - I tried to stick with high Proteins, eggs, tuna, chicken, and I just got on regular food yesterday so I ate salad at lunch and supper. I was really craving a good salad. Do you know that the turkey and ham lunch meat that is 97% fat free is only about 60 cals and 13 gr. Protein for 2 oz - thats what I put in my salad yesterday for lunch. I didn't go for the pizza - just wasn't hungry for it - yet.

Steph - My mushies requirement was soft foods as well, so I've done similar - yogurt, cottage cheese, super soft meats, lots of scrambled eggs and egg beaters, etc.

I'm just afraid of PB-ing cuz I hate throwing up! :)

Good info on the lunch meat. I may try a little chicken with teriyaki, BBQ or hot sauce so it's moist... and veggies! I couldn't think of a way to get soft veggies while on mushies and for the first time ever ever ever I actually want some green beans! (I'm normally the one who avoids veggies...)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
