Has anyone with hypothyroids got sleeved and how was the turn out

Recommended Posts

I have hypothyroidism and I was sleeved on January 23, 2013. I've lost 98 lbs so far. I have 52 lbs to go. I really don't think it will be a waste of your time. It's been the best thing I've ever done for myself.

I have hypothytoidism I have lost 120 in 12 months. I workout 5-6 days a week and maybe lose 1 lb a week. So it is now slow go has been since january. I take my synthroid daily as well as B12 and some days do not have any energy but the surgery was a blessing and hypothroid or not I would do it all over again.

I was hypothyroid and have been taken off my synthroid now. Weird because I was told I would be on it for the rest of my life... Just to be clear though, my hypo was NEVER due to any disease or malfunction of the actual thyroid gland, it had to do with how my body USED the hormone. It was like no matter how much my thyroid made, my body would scream for MORE because it couldn't use it properly. Now that I'm off WHEAT, my body is no longer suffering inflammation and is better able to use the hormone that my body makes.

Being able to get off of thyroid medication is really rare, I don't want to give people the impression that getting sleeved or giving up wheat will heal their thyroid.

I no longer have a thyroid. My surgery day weight on 8/22/2012 was 250. This morning, 173.5. I find I'm in the slower side of losing, but overall, so happy I did this!

Wow. I never knew that could be possible, and would love if that could happen to me. No high hopes, but I will ask my endo when I see her next. I was sleeved May 6 this year and have lost about 45 lbs so far. I won't have my first post-surgery labs drawn until August and really look forward to seeing if my cholesterol and thyroid numbers have changed. :)

I have hypo thyroids and I'm trying to figure out would it help me or just be a waste of time?

I have been hypothyroid for 25 years, I take Synthroid .125mg daily, I'm also 53. I had the surgery May 21st and have lost 22 pounds. The last 2 weeks I've been roughly the same weight. I haven't had near the results as others around the time of my surgery. I'm glad I had it done because I wasn't having any success in getting the weight off. My sister said that I may have even kept gaining little by little. I've had two long stalls and I know if I were dieting with as little as I am eating, I would have given up. Even if it comes off slow, I know it's going to come off. As excited as I am to lose, I know it's better for me to lose more slowly, at my age I think it gives your body a chance to catch up with the weight loss so you may not have the issues with as much sagging skin, only time will tell for me. Good luck, I'm sure you won't regret it!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
