Denise, thinking of you today - hope the MRI goes well and they figure out how to solve this infection and get you healed up!

Sorry you had such a miserable time at that support group meeting - I have only attended the meetings that my surgeon's office hold. I had not gone in a long time due to my new schedule, as well as the topics which were geared more towards early pre and post-ops. I had a great time at the last meeting and I felt re-energized at the last one I attended. My docs office seems to be very interested in those of us who are further and further out from surgery - as we know this is where the rubber meets the road :) We used to have a few folks from here that attended, (Fiddleman and his wife, Steph, and a few others) but I have not seen those folks in quite a while.

The cookie monster seems to still come around and the poo is still green and blue! I must have the world's slowest GI system of my insides are permanently stained from that Seahawks cupcake frosting - maybe the Patriots tainted it so I will have it forever lol. (JK New England fans).

I am so sorry you are going through such an ordeal with your infection Denise - I hope some relief comes soon, hang in there!

Kim hope you have decent weather for your bird watching trip!

Sheryl, I think you have a great attitude about the weight you are at now - I am always thrying to get to a place where I feel okay with my weight - not sure I ever have had that, even when I was under 120 lbs about a thousand years ago :)

Your post cracked me up!  Cookie Monster!  LOL    I'm in agreement with all about finding a place of acceptance.  I know for me, though, where I feel really good is around 145-150 and need to get back there and HOLD IT.  At my age, I am also starting to worry about long term health also - even at a lower weight and bmi if I allow myself now to start consuming too much sugar and carbs I could still wind up "in the ditch" so to speak healthwise.

Denise, sorry to hear that you are still suffering... this has been such a long hard time for you;no wonder you are depressed about it all.  Sending you cwtches across the pond.

Sheryl, I am also sorting out my home... I wanted to move but unfortunately we can't afford it at the moment, or for a few years to be exact, so I am stuck here... it is a lovely place to live, but too far away from my parents and friends for my liking.  Anyway, I have just decorated my daughter's room and it is looking lovely... just gotta gloss the woodwork.  We are off school for a week next week, so I will be concentrating on our living room - got a guy coming Sat to give us an idea how much a multi burner will cost and I've ordered a new sofa.

I love painting and decorating.

On the 5:2 front, no movement on the scales for me... but I had a really hard week last week, so let's hope I feel stronger this week.  Things are still tough here but I am trying to stay positive.

Coops, I love to decorate also.  I'm constantly redoing something even if its only bed linens etc.  Now, I'm going to repaint my bedroom and a couple other rooms and need to refloor both upstairs bedrooms which are carpet.  Yuk!  Rest of house if hardwood which is so much cleaner and easier to KEEP clean.

I'm also not having much movement (except up!) on the scales.  I am wobbling up and down 3-4 pounds so I guess I've established for myself a SET POINT - at a higher than I like weight!!!

I have upped my exercise so hopefully, I'll get some results if I can get back on a good eating routine consistently.

Finally, I have some plans besides take more antibiotics. I am going to have an MRI tomorrow morning. There is this lump in that spot, and I assume it needs to be drained but who knows what could be in there.

Sheryl, I am glad you found someone new to date. I get some sort of enjoyment hearing about your dates, since I'm stuck here in Nowheresville. I like Bill just fine.  I am not in the mood to find someone else even though we are not compatible

There is not one thing that both of us feel the same way about. I hate his music most of all. It's the weirdest music I have ever heard. Finding someone new would take a lot of effort which I have no energy for. Maybe the universe will take pitty on me and I'll meet someone IRL . I would love to  have to tell Bill I met someone that who likes the same things I like. He would be happy for me. He knows this is ridiculous to be with someone who likes nothing you like.

I am just going to have to go shopping and buy some new tops. My tops are all tight fitting from 10 lbs ago. I would really hate to get rid of my clothes but I need some loose fitting tops.

I've been trying to redo my house too. Actually, I've never done anything since I moved in 3 years ago, other than paint. I have no idea how to decorate. I bought a few paintings but the one long wall looks kind of funny cause the wall is so big. I don't know if you're supposed to put other things next to paintings. A painting to fit that wall would be so expensive.

Denise, I'm so sorry to hear about this latest infection.  Had great hopes that it was over and done with but glad to hear that something else is in the works (MRI)  Hopefully, this will give them some answers and you some permanent relief!  Nothing is worse than things dragging on and on!

Denise, have you heard of manuka honey? It works wonders with infections. I worry about you falling down the rabbit hole of what passes for health "care" in the US...

Crud - must have been Coop. There are only a handful of us here, you think i could remember! sorry

I saw my doctor for another topic and I discussed "joint health" with her. She is always pushing herbal remedies that i dont think work - but what is clear that my body is complaining about the high activity levels. I am paying attention, pacing myself, listening to my body but I am not willing to sit down and stop playing hard! I worry of doing like Irene where she blew her knees out doing Insanity and other ridiculously joint pounding workouts a few years ago. That was one of the key things that led her to regaining from what I gather so I am really aware....

So, going to physical therapy to get some biomecanical advice, think I will try the knee miracle drug that helps Coops hubby so much. #1 thing is to avoid personal trainers who have all watched one too many episodes of biggest loser and think you only "gain when there is pain". I am still ticked off at that gym and that trainer... grrr

Kickboxing is going fine, I am very fatigued from it, but with the brace on my knee is not more sore due to it. i suspect very soon I wont need the brace. I will be wearing a very aggressive brace next time I go skiing (if we ever get decent snow this winter!)

Sheryl, I am going on a trip to Whistler skiing next month - what kind of knee brace are you thinking? I have bad osteo-arthritis and am very nervous about aggravating it - a lot of biking last summer was pretty painful. I should just go back and find the miracle brace that was mentioned.

Sheryl - have you considered low impact fitness instead of this stuff that keeps tearing you up?

I think every last one of us needs to be in therapy. Hell, I think every human on the planet needs therapy, at least, every human who lives in a sad disconnected digitized isolating western culture of punishment :/

My knee was injured when I was obese. I have managed to workout pretty successfully without re injuring it, but I side stepped wrong during a low impact zumba class. It is fine now, just needed a few weeks of rest. The kickboxing doesn't not seem to aggravate it - but i wear a brace as a precaution. My elbow is repetitive motion issue - from shoveling horse manure (a great low impact workout by the way!). I moved my horses to a pals house so I can actually rest it!

I had the MRI on my back and the results are very bad. The infection has gone into the bone. My daughter says I will need surgery again. I see the specialist tomorrow. I am depressed beyond words.

I asked my surgeon a month ago for a CT scan to see if it had gone into the bone. He convinced me to do one more round of antibiotics.  GRRRR I should have listened to my daughter and demanded one.

I weighed 142 again this morning. I seem to be hanging out there. I eat a lot of junk but try to watch it too. I guess my body likes this weight.

I could never do kick boxing. I guess I really liked working out by myself using the weights but now I can't do anything.

There are some websites I want to check out to see what people put on their walls besides pictures and paintings.

TaDa - my first multiquote post!!!

Kelly, I don't think we discussed braces here, but my friend Theo is something of an expert. He sent me a link on a bunch of them which I can hopefully type in correctly.

mykneestretches.com/best-knee-brace-reviews

My conclusiion is that for 20-30 bucks you can get a good brace. Most people like the ones that are "wrap" style and that is what I have. Mueller is a good brand that they sell at say walgreens

I am thinking of buying a higher end one (from Amazon) to have "just in case" hiking gives me any grief this summer. I As best I can tell, the higher end ones are more comfortable and perhaps more designed for specific activties. I value my active lifestyle and have every intention of continuing it. i do not have daily pain on my knees, I just know they are damaged and like I said I tweaked the right one doing a stupid zumba class (my foot caught on the rubber floor and put lateral torque on it). It's better now... but...

I have tried various supplements for joint issues and never noticed a difference - I think I have a bottle of the Osteo Biflix in my cabinet right now in fact. I just recall that Coops posted about a supplement that made a difference for her husband and he has quite serious knee issues so thought I would give it a go, but I had never heard of it so when I went back to find it I couldn't remember enough to find it even!

Oh Denise... what a nightmare. Infections are bad stuff. I had a bone infection as a child - it was in my clavicle. It made for a very sick kid but I DID make a complete recovery (eventually) without surgery. In fact, it was a "one last try" at antibiotics before surgery because my mother was horrified at the size of the scar it would leave on a girls body.and she knew they could not afford plastic surgery to fix it I was taken out of school for about 3 months, put on heavy duty antibiotics and had to rest and sleep alot. It was hellish, but thank you mom - this was better than surgery. I am sparing you some of the details as I don't want to frighten you - but it was a tough recovery and I was sick for a long time before it was finally beaten permanently.

I am sure your daughter has told you this, but given that you are fighting an infection, do everything you can to fuel your body for the fight. Worry less about your weight and more about healthy fuel (ie no junk, but eat more healthy whole foods). I would keep the Protein up too. Don't worry about working out or any of that - to me you are still in recovery mode from a major insult to the body and do what you can to bolster yourself up. It is really hard since you are very stressed by it, but I think alot of positive healing visualizations and stuff like that can really help too. I believe so strongly in the power of the mind to either lift us up or bog us down...

Hang in there - keep us posted on what they are doing next.

Oh, and textiles can make interesting wall adornment if they fit the style of your home. I have also used paint techniques like having an accent wall or something like that. Now these days, it is my lack of interest in it all that is the problem. :)

Thank you Coops!

Last night I had baby tacos from a taco truck - heavenly. I didn't eat the double baby tortillas and they were great without. I am so glad we did that - I got to pick where everything from a nice dinner at a great restaurant to a taco truck - it is funny that I should ever say I don't really want to be wined and dined. I just love eating small and flavorful! It was actually satiating too! Beef and cilantro with a great red sauce basically.

I am off horseback riding...yahoo... have a great Friday everyone!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
