My parents really did not want to eat once they got elderly. It was a big problem for quite a few  years. They just had no appetite. My  mom would at least drink those drinks that are made to put on calories.

I am so disgusted. My infection is back in my incision . I don't know how it can go from completely healed and looking perfect then 5 days later, after stopping antibiotics, it's infected again. My daughter is convinced they left something in there. I don't know what makes him think that this time these antibiotics are going to work when the last 2 strong ones didn't.

I need a medical person to tell me what to do.

It was really good to read all the updates. I am so glad everyone checked in. I don't have the energy to respond to anyone cause I feel so sick right now. I am not sure if it's the antibiotics or just being infected is making me sick.

I haven't lost any weight, but for the past 2 months since surgery I haven't wanted to eat real food much. I live on Protein Drinks and bars and Greek yogurt and some sort of junk food at times.

Denise,

I am not a medical person, but an infection that returns when antibiotics stop is nothing to fool with. This is the 3rd round of infections? Time to get theeself to a wound specialist.

I am so empathetic about losing parents... the decline, the loss. I had about 10 years of hell between aging parents, dying other relatives (including my sister). I feel like I had to face all that way too young - still in my early 40s. I still had little kids, a growing career, it was a nightmare. It had a big negative impact on me, I hope you are able to manage your way through this better than I did.

I can't believe it, I regained my 5:2 losses and am back to 163. I want to weigh 143. I didn't go wild, I was just lazy and low activity this weekend. I was not eating excessively in the least - this was the wakeup call that I need to eat really small to maintain weight and I have been eating too much for months and am paying the price. And in spite of my aches and pains, I NEED to get back on the high intensity exercise train. Damn.

Infuriating - I wrote a lovely bit on my Iphone and it just ... went away. grrr!

Love to you Coops, I feel for you and I hope that you are taking the time to love yourself.

Have any of you heard of transoral outlet reduction? I think I may do this, if my insurance covers it...

My company throws a huge start-of-the-year bash, it was this weekend and my favorite band from high school played - WEEZER!! It was amazing, it was cathartic, my innner teenager could finally rest in peace, I finally got to be *that* girl - pretty at a concert with all the cool kids :P with a cute boy! I was filled with joy in a way I haven't been since before my Father died.

Oh and Denice - what the eff, get yourself to a wound specialist NOW.

Sounds like a fun concert.. woohoo!

I saw the link about the outlet reduction procedure, but aren't you getting long term results from the nasal tube treatment? That was one of their claims - but I don't understand how.

well I went back and looked at the programs again. The title of the program is What's the right diet for you? A Horizon special. I used BBCiplayer to watch it on my iPad. I'm not sure if BBCiplayer works overseas. There was 3 episodes.

Basically they asked for 200 overweight volunteers, tested them with gene testing, hormone testing and psychological testing. The group was whittled down to 75 and they were then put into one of 3 groups:

Constant cravers - these are people who were identified by genes in their gut which they said is quite a new piece of research. These people feel hungry even when they have eaten recently. It seems that the genes trick the brain into thinking the fat stores constantly need replenishing so they feel hungry. This group was put on the 5:2 diet but they had 800 calories on their fast day.

Emotional eaters - this group was identified by psychological testing. One of them also had an MRI scan with the brain being in 2 different emotional states. The scan clearly identified that when sad the part of the brain that identifies with reward was much more active, so we want to reward ourselves when we are sad/stressed/angry. This group needed group support for their dieting and they were sent off to diet groups, asked to support each other online and given CBT.

Feasters - this group overeat at mealtimes and just don't know when to stop as their 'full' signal was so slow. This group was identified by looking at gut hormones and they all seemed to be lacking or low in glp1 (?). This group was put on a high Protein & low GI foods, it was thought that this combination would help to give them that full feeling. Also this group had to look at Portion Control as their brain wasn't going to give them the signal so. They had to have physical control.

They also conducted experiments with each of the groups to prove that they had identified people correctly into the right group. I found the whole 3 programs interesting and I hope you can get round to seeing them.

To. Find out what group you fall into you can take a survey at bbc.co.uk/rightdiet

I will check that out - thanks Cathy!

Well, I dropped the Water weight and I am back to where I was a week ago. sheesh. This is hard.

I realized yesterday that while I don't feel blue or depressed, I am not my same ole self. One of my friends texted and called for days asking if I was depressed - when we finally talked live I was like "what?" and he said that i had NEVER turned down an invite to go out and have fun and I have been doing that lately (he and his gfriend had asked me to join them for an evening out). It was true - i had multiple invites for both Friday and Saturday night and blew them all off - basically stayed in all weekend except I took my son out to eat. I found myself wanting to be home rather than "out" which is totally opposite of my normal.... That in and of itself is maybe no biggie, but I have felt hermit like for weeks now and that just isn't me.

Anyway, last night I made myself do a social event and I had so much fun at it! I am not depressed over Kevin by any stretch - in fact having him GONE makes me realize I wasn't really enjoying much of the being with him. I think I do feel discouraged about relationships topic - but what else is new?

Seahawks to the superbowl again - this town is pretty excited about that!

Can we just say that this weekend was not my finest?! LOL. Annual trip with YaYas and it was,"what and when are we going to eat now?" Ha! Love my girls, though, and I have forgiven myself today and moved on to a new 5:2 fast day Along With the brand new horrible cold I have also! ????.

And, Coops and Cathy, My heart goes out to you. As many said, once we get to the place where we become the caregiver/overseer/parent for our parents it is extremely difficult to deal with emotionally. It was for me. It takes a toll on us and formerly, we would compensate with food. Thankfully, even if you stumble, you have learned to handle it and your sleeve helps out. Sending love to you both.

Sheila, SOOO good to hear from you. Boy, I do NOT envy you the two hour commute. I have one hour each way but only three days week, thankfully.

Denise!! I'm in agreement. You really need to get to a wound specialist. I'm so sorry to hear this has flared up again.

Yeah, Kim and Sheryl, I'm certainly not doing as well YET on non-fast days. Way too easy to sabotage myself! I really need to lose these 20 pounds again!!! That would put me back in the high 140s where I really feel good.

Florinda , I'm going to look at that link. No idea what that is. And Cathy, going to see if I can find a YouTube or google that program. Sounds interesting.

Happy Tuesday, All!

CGJane - Yes, 20 lbs with the nasal tube but unfortunately I cannot continue with it; I am simply too delicate internally, my nasal passages, my esophagus, couldn't handle the trauma. So, that 's 20 pounds off which is great, but I am still 50 lbs over my target weight, the target weight that I never got to, even though I got to surgeon's (prior to regain).

I always want to eat, I eat to soothe anxiety, even anxiety about becoming anxious. Like an alcoholic, I don't need a reason to want to eat. v_v I am most likely the third category of Cathy's test, wherein I require physical restriction that makes me incapable of overeating.

Good fast day Monday (508 calories), a clean eating day yesterday as well as a session with the trainer and I'm rewarded with a 2lb weight loss this week. So total is now 4lb off the regain. I need to keep this up but it sure is hard.

I would be interested to hear if any of you took the survey on that bbc site (bbc.co.uk/rightdiet) to find out what sort of eater you are. I thought I was an emotional eater and it came out that way. Emotional eaters it said need groups to help with their weight loss and interaction and support of fellow dieters. That's why I need you guys, I don't have that support system around me here. The part of the UK I'm in does not seem to have support groups for WLS and those that do are only available to you if you had your op at their facility. I went to Europe for mine (equivalent of going to Mexico) so do not have follow up support.

Denise I hope you get the problem with your wound sorted out soon.

Taking the test was hard because some of the answers are different pre versus post sleeve. I came up as a "constant Craver" but not by much. I think pre op i was both a constant craver and a feaster - and they both scored the highest on the quiz.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
