G'day Folks :(

I had my band surgery on 19th December 2006 (2 and half weeks now).

I have no idea what my fill is at this stage. My weight on hospital admission was 124 kilos, I dropped 5.4 kilos while in hospital, but nothing since. I'm on liquids for 4 weeks.......fruit juice, drinking yoghurt, broths & Soups, milky drinks and jelly. I sure hope I get a loss this week. It looks and feels like I have lost more, but the scales wont come to the party and agree (sadly)

I like many of the newbies I was reading have suffered with painful gas and was advised to take Mylanta when needed. Mylanta will absorb the gas (what a life saver). I've not suffered with painful incisions/scars however I do have a hardenning lump around one major incision. I'll get this checked when I see the Dr next on 30.1.2007. I have continual pain in both upper shoulders or upper back, I assume this is gas?

Can anyone tell me when you first get your band, is it just placed on and filled at further appointments? or do they do a fill at the time of surgery?

I'm feeling in reasonably good health since my surgery. One thing I have noticed is.......My mind is ever so clear and sharp, Im putting this down to the liquid diet (no junk) and detoxification. I'm so looking forward to this future new journey of health and happiness. Congratulations to all who have made the same decision. Prior to surgery I wasn't living I was barely existing. 2006 was such an awefull year for me, let 2007 be the start of Everything new

My surgery was done my Dr Paul Leong - Adelaide South Australia

Hi Gerbera. Im in Vic, just posted my first thread, read my experience, from lillynushoes. Apparently it depends on your doctor, if it has a fill at the op. You and I have started at the same weight, I had a hard lump too but it has settled down. The pain in the shoulders did hang around for a while, maybe three weeks, stay on the watch for that junk! it usually comes in small packages!

They typically do not fill the band at the time of surgery. You should have limited restriction but it is not surprising if you gain a little weight when you go back on solids. I gained 6 lbs prior to one of my fills. I have 10cc band and have 3cc in it. It sounds like you are doing fine. If your hunger isn't too bad and you are losing you may not want a fill. But if you can consume higher quanitities of food and feel hungry all the time it is definitely time for a fill. It may take you several to feel optimal results. Good luck.

Hey Lilly,

Cheers and Thanks for your reply. I started to take more notice of the pain in the shoulders, it's more in the shoulder blades and more when I'm hungry and at nights after a long day. Hopefully it will cease in another week or so. My mind went on a tangent (thinking the worse of course) and started to think things like gallstones etc. I've heard it's common for people who get banding?

Hi Juliegeraci,

Thanks for your reply re the fill :(

I guess I'm going to have to wait till my follow up appointment on 31.1.2007 to find out information about the size of my band, what my fill is and if I should get a top up fill.

As I mentioned in my earlier post, I dropped 5.4 kilo in my week in hospital but nothing since. I'm doing ok on the liquids it's only been just over 2 weeks. I'm certainly not eating or consuming enough to be putting on weight or even maintaining my weight, I really should be losing with the amounts I'm consuming (approx 900 calories a day) I'm totally at a loss as to why I'm not losing. Oh well I'll stick with it and keep my fingers crossed.

I've tried adding a weightloss tricker and a signature, however feel I have failed miserably in that department, if anyone can offer some advice, i'd be greatful CHEERS in advance

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
