shelbyschroepfer 35 Posted July 12, 2013 Had my surgery at 10am yesterday and am in ghe most pain I've ever been in. Stayed last night and was up every hour needing more morphine. Was able to walk last night and this afternoon but it was very hard and started some bleeding when I coughed. Haven't drank anything but ice chips, and liquid Vicodin. Everything I drink, even the smallest about, sends my stomach into a cramp fest that hurts so bad. Can hardly sleep because pain meds do not last. Just had a dose of the liquid Vicodin a half hour ago and the pain is already back I'm terrified about going home because have no recliner or propped up bed to lay in comfortably. Plus have 2 large dogs and my bathroom is in the other side of the house. Sorry for venting but just in so much pain. MIJourney 490 Posted July 12, 2013 2nd day seems to be the worst for many Just know it's a short-lived time in your journey and will be well worth it soon!!
honeybunny526 0 Posted July 12, 2013 The second day was bad for me too, but I didn't have as much pain as you are describing. I was just sore. You MUST take teeny tiny sips of Water or else you will keep sending your stomach into those spasms. When you go home, don't expect to just lay around either... Get up and walk and do your breathing exercises! I can't stress to you how important that is! You will get through this and day by day it will get better. Baby steps my friend! My year anniversary is next month!

epc317 13 Posted July 12, 2013 You should be doing deep breathing exercises to prevent pneumonia. I was given an Incentive Spirometer for this in the hospital. Maybe ask you nurse if they haven't mentioned this?

honeybunny526 0 Posted July 12, 2013 Yes... exactly what epc is saying. You don't want pneumonia OR blood clots in your lungs.
goirish78 100 Posted July 12, 2013 I'm so sorry to hear you're not feeling well and in pain Do you have other people at home who can help take care of you? If not, make sure you mention this to the nurses; they may be able to keep you for further observation. Take it one step as a time, and do whatever you need to in order to get through the day.
