Looking for "buddies" in Michigan, more specifically Grand Rapids area...

Recommended Posts

Those of you who had surgery at St. Mary's, Grand Rapids, was there a place for your family members to stay while you were in the hospital?

I was told that st marys has private rooms so 1 person can stay with you there. And I believe they have discounted rates at hotels.

I will be staying at Sophia's House. It's right across the road from St. Mary's. It is for families of people who haveto stay overnight.

Well I just went for my pre-op appt yesterday. I am lucky in that I only have to do a 1 week pre-op diet. Its been fine' date=' nothing too terrible. They have you do alot of processed foods which isn't my favorite but oh well.

I go for labs thurs and I am scheduled for 730am mon(st marys). I am happy to be first thing too. 2 night stay prob unless they think I am ok sooner. They really have their stuff together, everything is stream lined and well communicated. I have nothing but good things to say about GHP. So happy my ins will cover this so I didn't have to go far away.

Are you getting excited! You aren't far off,[/quote']

Hi!!

How are you doing? Awesome you have just one week pre op diet. Sara, his assistant, told me two weeks. How are you feeling? Excited? Nervous?

Write back when you can, Elana

Congrats on a date, gardengirl. I had dr. Foote also and he's just great. 7 weeks now and starting to feel pretty good, except diarrhea issues that we're working on.

Surgical recovery was a breeze, very easy. I ended up with lots of issues regarding intolerance of whey Protein and lactose, so still dealing with diarrhea almost every day and having to work around that, it the surgery itself was pretty good. Had some shoulder pain early on but it passed in the first couple weeks.

Just trying to figure out all the waging and getting Protein in. I have been released to "all foods". - yay- but in order to get in the 60g of protein, you really can't enjoy much of anything else anyway:(

To those who are with Grand Health Partners: what is the pre op diet like and how hard was it to stick to? I go to the half day class on Monday. Hope everyone is doing well, thanks,Elana.

Grand health partners pre op is pretty easy. 6 products a day plus 64 oz. Of beverage.

The preop is all their food, so if you stick to it, you really don't cheat because its all theirs. Also, they know what outré eating and can tell by your weight if you've varied from the plan.

The NUT will go with you through ordering foods from the store to cover the 2 weeks and then you get them at the end.

IMO, stay far away from the broccoli cheese Soup and most Soups. The meals are pretty good esp the pot roast is very good. Most of the bars are decent. Jello is Jello.

You will get through it, it's much easier than the liquid post op two weeks.

Hope I don't sound stupid but...dr. Foote's assistant Sara told me I'll be on a two week liquid diet. Wouldn't that be different than your two week pre op of meals, bars, Soup, etc?

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
