Isn't smoking marijuana illegal in 48 states? Maybe you're from one of the two legal ones? This forum is public. Do you want to say you're smoking weed for all the Internet to see?

ETA: oops maybe you're in a different country where it's legal. Sorry

I'm not judging, just concerned for privacy.

But you are judging by your first initial statement, if you can't chime in with info, don't chime in at all. Smh

I've smoked for almost 30 years. I now have MS and am bipolar with OCD and severe anxiety. I can only do one thing at a time. I plan on quitting soon but I get stressed easily and it's a crutch.

As far as weed goes, I live in Michigan where med m is legal and I'm eligible for it. Because my disease is stable I refuse to get my card. I wholeheartedly believe in pot medically. I strongly think it should be legalized across the board. Hit the drug company's bottom line. I don't care for people who just use because they can and do nothing whatsoever with their lives because they are always stoned. Jmo.

@@kitkatcannon ...

I wish you all the luck in the world in quitting smoking. I can tell you really want to.

As hard as it is, sooo many people achieve it -- different ways. Whatever way will work best for you is what's best for you.

Best wishes,

Ann

LOL!

For those who are pissed because people on this thread called "Smoking!" are expressing their personal opinions in response to an OP that says ...

I know that to quit smoking is highly recommended before and after surgery .. However , my doctor never mentioned anything to me about it and I smoked my last cigarette the night before my surgery . I'm 3 days post op and haven't smoked , although I am craving a bit .
Has anyone continued smoking after the surgery ? I'm very curious . I'm trying to not but I just wanna know what if

Also , I'm a very active marijuana smoker and I also smoked the night before my surgery and I haven't since . I really don't wanna quit .. I need to look more into it . Does anyone else smoke marijuana ?

I'm surprised my doctor didnt inform me of any of this before the surgery .

... you may wish to accustom yourself to the idea that this is a message board where people, when invited to express their opinions and share relevant information, are more than likely going to express their opinions and share information they think is relevant.

Regarding the smoking "rule," the reason it's forbidden is that (and I'm quoting below an MD on a plastic surgery Web site):

"Nicotine in all its forms retards healing after surgery. The vasoconstriction of the blood vessels is only one of the deleterious effects. It also retards the production of fibroblasts, the healing cells themselves."

Oh, and if any of you want to have plastic surgery in the future, you might like to google images for pix of plastic surgery that "wasn't successful" on smokers.

And on the recreational (not medical) marijuana front, I truly am gobsmacked that you would choose to undergo VSG surgery while continuing to use a drug that's widely known (and medically prescribed) to increase your appetite.

And that's my opinion.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
