Have to see the ENT, tube up the nose...eek!

Recommended Posts

My lung dr is concerned about my airway and wants me to have it checked. I'm pretty sure it means a nasal endoscopy. Listen people I barely survived the regular endoscopy with lots of drugs and you want me to sit there with no anesthesia and let you put a scope up my nose??? God help me. When will all this test bs be over. I thought I was done and was getting ready to submit to insurance but I hit this roadblock. Anyone by chance have this done? I feel like every ounce of my anxiety disorder is being tested with the testing and the surgery so I hope I survive it. Any words of encouragement are appreciated, I'm kinda stressed. Thanks!

We're you not out for the endoscopy? I was totally out and didn't even know they did it. Not sure what the dr has planned for your next test, but seems to me you may want to question why all the extra testing and concern. Make sure there's a legit reason for it and all. Drs like to milk the system and it's a waste of insurance and your time.

Yes I was awake for my endoscopy. Thanks for letting me know what it's like. I'm really scared, I'm so over this. If I don't have it done the lung dr won't sign off a clearance for me for my surgery and game over. Son of a ....

You will be fine once the tube is in your nose it's just not something we're used to but it took my test about 15 minutes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
