ChristineR 128 Posted July 11, 2013 There may not be obvious side effects now but the Protein helps you heal and helps you keep your muscle in tact. I am to get 60-80 g a day so 40 isn't so far off but I would definitely try to bump it up. If you don't like shakes there are Premier Protein bars with 30 g of Protein in it. They have a nice chunk of calories too but it's a decent go-to meal.

skrubabilen 41 Posted July 11, 2013 I drink the Premier Protein shakes. Delish and you can't beat the 30 grams of Protein. Blend them with some ice and a small piece of banana and it tastes fantastic. My hubs loves the premier protein bars. I haven't tried one yet, I'm only 9 weeks out. I use Bariatric Fusion! I swear these shakes are magic. If I don't use them for a week or so the scale doesn't move. So I start drinking them again--and the scale shows loss. I have used other shakes but do not get the same results or the same Protein in. 2 Ballermom and AmyInOrlando reacted to this

ChristineR 128 Posted July 11, 2013 How does those Protein bars taste? They aren't bad. I tend to break them in half and use them as a snack 2x instead of one large chunk.
GoldyGirl 186 Posted July 12, 2013 I am 4 months out...I have the same problem because I detest the shakes...there are consequences...you won't lose as much or as quickly. You will not feel as well or have as much energy. You will lose hair regardless if you get the Protein or not. I am trying to get more in by food, but I just can't eat a lot, so it is a struggle. Just hang in there & keep trying. Best of luck to you! I am 6 Months out and have NOT lost hair, why does everyone Tell PPL they will Lose hair, not the case, at Least in my experience and my Doctor said not everyone does most of his sleeve patience don't..... luckysmomma 407 Posted July 12, 2013 Goldygirl - I was just relaying what my doctor & nut told me and what I have learned from this site...I even had to sign a bunch of forms about the Hair loss when I had surgery...I was told it could start around the 3/4 month mark and end at the 9/12 month mark..but could happen, and more than likely would happen, anytime during the first 18 months...every doctor & nut are different and tell us different things...you are very lucky!! Mine just started recently...it is heartbreaking, but I have never heard anything about going bald...so I just pray to make it through. 1 No game reacted to this

butterfly_gal 151 Posted July 12, 2013 I am going to start drinking shakes again. I stopped because I don't like them, but I need extra Protein. I too am falling short daily and need to supplement.
Nursebarbie 392 Posted July 12, 2013 I was told it was less likely to lose hair with the sleeve vs bypass because its a restrictive wls vs malabsorptive. But I heard some do lose some hair. I am hoping for me it doesn't happen.
pnkhart 9 Posted July 12, 2013 Better get your protien or your gonna loose your hair! I know because i am 4 months out down 60lbs but my hair had been falling out by the handfuls i can see bare scalp. I knew better but not hungry and when i do eat enough protien no room left for Water. I have also added Biotin with keratin Vitamin. Good luck. Im struggling but not giving up. This is now my life forever. Sent from my iPhone using VST
Ljones1 48 Posted July 12, 2013 What can be taken to avoid Hair loss? I'm not sleeved yet but can start some type of supplement now.
sharonintx 1,275 Posted July 12, 2013 Try the Biotin. I'm not sure how much Hair loss it will prevent but it won't hurt. I've been taking it, sublingual b complex, Iron, and multi Vitamin every day for 3 months. No hair loss at all.
