Scared of Vomiting

Recommended Posts

I have read lots of comments about vomiting after surgery. I'm sure everyone is different but I'm very worried about this because both my prior surgeries I vomited really bad for days. My last c-section I had I discussed this problem with my doctor and they agreed to give me extra meds to keep me from getting so sick. It didn't work bc a few mins into my surgery I started vomiting and vomited for days after that. It was the worst feeling in the world and has scarred me for life bc now I'm just absolutely terrified its gonna happen again! I literally thought I was gonna choke and die right there. I also know a women who vomited during her gastric bypass and died. I just don't really know how to get past this scary feeling.

Last question... I'm also the type of person who has to eat every couple hours or I will get so sick I will almost vomit. After being sleeved does this feeling go way bc your stomach is smaller?

I've had several surgeries and the first two I vomited from the anesthesia, but in the last 3-4 years I have not had a problem. I was told they gave me additional meds to prevent the nausea. But you are clearly way more sensitive to anesthesia than I am. I suggest you try to see the anesthesiologist before surgery day so a plan can be made. There has to be something they can do to keep you from getting so sick.

I didn't throw up at all. They gave me anti-nausea meds in pre-op and again after surgery.

Sent me home with meds for nausea and I didn't need to take them.

Are you diabetic? Pre-surgery I got a woozy, naueous, faint feeling if I didn't eat something every few hours. I think it was a problem with my blood sugar dropping. I've not had that feeling since surgery. Didn't have it during that 1st week after when I had a hard time getting liquids in let alone Protein. Now I do eat about 6 times a day. Was just told today to up my cals a bit. I was at 600-800/day and NUT wants me at 900-1000. I do aim for 90-100 g of protein/day now and that's not a problem. I basically eat Protein 1st then there's not room for anything else.

Good luck!

I'm not diabetic, although I wonder sometimes bc of the way I have been feeling. I was just recently tested and all was fine. I'm thinking I'm just overly sensitive!

Ask for a scopolamine patch when you talk to the anesthesiologist. Get it on early so it has time to start working and they will also probably give you zofran as well. They have a good "cocktail" of meds that seem to work well for the nausea/vomiting patients I've had.

I vomited after surgery, and it was the worst time of my life. I still don't think I am recovered. The only thing that worked for me was a suppository (gross- but made me so happy after getting it!)

I wish I could tell you that does not happen, but it was also my biggest fear. Sure enough, woke up sick and vomited non stop for 3 days, none of the regular meds worked for me. Had the patch, had the zofran, had phentergine, nothing. Finally, I was given compazine, and praise God , it worked. I was sent home with it as well, but I can tell you in 3 days it was gone. I later learned it is sometimes a complication of this surgery and usually lasts no longer that 3 days. I was so scared I would pop my sutures or form a leak, but none of that happened, and It did not in any way add to the pain, in fact I had almost no pain, which was also a blessing, as I cant take pain meds either for the same reason. I can also tell you, I would do it all again, and most would tell you the same thing, so dont worry..they will do all they can, and by the time I came home, I needed no more meds and each day has been better. There is nothing that compares to how good you feel once the weight is off, even just a bit of it. Best to you, you will be fine so dont wasit any more precious time with worry, it wont change anything :)

Compazine is only thing that worked for me too! I though I would die!

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
