Ask your nutritionist for their suggestions. If not let me know and I can give you mine. Keep in mind all Doctors have their own ideas.

I took a robe, 2 pair of shorts and 2 tops and used non of them. Lived in my hospital gown. I took face wash, moisturizer. Didn't use them either. I used my Shampoo and moisturizer the day I went home. I also took an mp3 player and ear phones, kindle. Again didn't use. Personally I would take whatever you think you can't live without and then see. No harm no foul

I brought a bunch of stuff to the hospital with me that I didn't use either- I only stayed one night, and I wore my hospital gown the entire time. They kept checking my stomach and injecting me in my stomach, so it was just easier. I brought a loose fitting maxi dress to wear home and some flip flops because I anticipated that putting on shoes would be hard, and I was right. I didn't shower or anything until I got home, so I never used any of my toiletries. I did not even brush my hair or my teeth (gross, I know, but just being honest). I did use my Kindle because I am not a big TV watcher, but only the afternoon of the second day when I was waiting to be discharged. I slept most of the first day.

As far as a food shopping list, this should come from your NUT because everyone's post-op diet is different.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
