MrsRaychJ 18 Posted July 11, 2013 I have PCOS and have since I was 15. My husband and I have been trying for 4 years. I am going in on the 15th for the VSG. I hope that it will help me get pregnant, and if not, at least make the doctors take me seriously instead of telling me to "just lose weight". They detected something that could be wrong on my HSG test but told me to come back after I lose weight and then they'll decide if there's something else preventing me from getting pregnant. I'm sorry I can't answer your question, just wanting you to know there are others out there! How long has it been since your surgery? How long did you wait to begin trying again? JRF8680 1 Posted July 11, 2013 I am just starting this scary process! I will be 33 next month and my husband and I have tried over a year. I have PCOS and feel like this is my last hope to start a family. I hope to have surgery the beginning of september! Would love to hear success stories from people with PCOS or people that had infertility issue before surgery.
MrsRaychJ 18 Posted July 11, 2013 My husband and I plan to "prevent" for 6 months (which will be new to us!) then not prevent for the next 6. If I am not pregnant by then we will be consulting a Reproductive Endocrinologist and starting on fertility meds again. If I have lost the weight and am still not pregnant there is probably another underlying issue, it would be nice to figure it out! Please everyone keep us updated after you lose the weight! CJsmom84 90 Posted July 12, 2013 My infertility was a catalyst for the surgery. I had two babies with relatively little help pills and maybe a hormone shot. Tried for baby number 3, no success, said they wouldn't touch Me unless I lost 65 lbs. Knew I couldn't do it on my own. I have a 28 cycle. Never in my life had I had them. I had Pcos before the surgery seems to have reduced most side effects except the hair. Good luck I think any reason is generally a good reason for this surgery. Just remember to Pareto on your path. Good luck. Sent from my EVO using VST
MnM25 4 Posted July 12, 2013 I am not sleeved yet but also have PCOS & insulin resistant, and my husband & I tried for 5 years & finally went to a fertility doctor to check us & was told it was a combo of my weight & his slow swimmers (they always want to check the man first since its the cheapest so make sure he's tested may not be just you) so then we were told that we would not have kids without medical intervention so we had treatments done & sadly didn't work & had exhausted all of our finances, so I gave up the thought of having my own & we started the foster/adopt process & low & behold a few months in of not trying or worrying about ovulation the works it had happened naturally....I honestly think stress plays a HUGE factor! I was pregnant at 255lbs (yuck) but pregnant none the less! So after you're sleeved you may feel less pressure & stress! Good luck to you!
Morganne 241 Posted July 12, 2013 It took me over a year to get pregnant with my daughter. I had to take fertility drugs. In my last trimester I developed high blood pressure. I was told it would go away after she was born. 3.5 years later and I'm the same weight I was when I go pregnant (203) and on blood pressure meds and feel terrible. I went to my baby doctor because we want another baby. He said, "I'm concerned you will develop gestational diabetes. You are already high risk as it is with high bp." I told him I was interested in the sleeve. He said to jump on it! I would get pregnant easier than my first and it would be a way healthier pregnancy. So, I did have the surgery to get pregnant. I'm 3 weeks and 2 days post op. I feel amazing!!! Post op 203 Surgery day 187 Now 170 1 MrsRaychJ reacted to this
clk 3,519 Posted July 12, 2013 They detected something that could be wrong on my HSG test but told me to come back after I lose weight and then they'll decide if there's something else preventing me from getting pregnant. This makes me angry on your behalf. Honestly - you're being denied the opportunity to delve into the "why" of your infertility because of your weight...as if there aren't just as many skinny women with infertility or fat women with plenty of babies! It took four years and several doctors to finally get someone to listen to me - weight is only a factor in infertility if you're not ovulating properly due to PCOS. If you can prove that you ovulate normally and your hormone panels come out within the norm, they're just putting you off. In my case, losing 100 pounds wouldn't have made the difference because after all those heartbreaking appointments that ended in referrals to the nutritionist so I could "give it another try" it turns out that my husband had the problems, not me. In your case, they already know that there might be another issue but won't check into it because of your weight? That's crap, I'm sorry. I'm glad you're having the surgery and I do hope it resolves your fertility issues. But it makes me angry that doctors are allowed to use weight as a blanket excuse for EVERYTHING. Do you know what hampers fertility for sure, even more than theories about weight? AGE. The more these doctors push us off the older we get and the lower the quality of our eggs. I'm sorry...I shouldn't hijack this for my personal vent. I hope that all of you ladies posting here get the chance to have children of your own. It is possible. PCOS and insulin resistance will definitely be helped by losing weight and it's true that a number of women report increased fertility after losing weight. And if all else fails, there is a world of medicine out there specifically to help people like us have babies. Good luck! ~Cheri 2 MrsRaychJ and melissapaige84 reacted to this
mandyrenee82 59 Posted July 12, 2013 I have pcos and this was the main factor for me to get this surgery done. My husband and I have been married 5 years now. Tried since day 1. Had tests done low and behold I have pcos. Couldn't afford fertility drugs at the time so we just got to the point "if it happens, it happens". I'll be 31 in August. My clock is ticking here. Our eggs lose quality as we age. Had the sleeve on 4/16 and down 70 pounds. Started my period which I didn't have for two years. Have actually had two now. Normal periods. Now on birth control so I don't get preggo too early. We all know we barely eat enough to keep us going, let alone another person growing inside us. I was told by my surgeon to wait 18 months. My pcp who is a fnp used to work for a wl center and said 12-18 months. So April/may/June next year we are going to start trying again. I honestly don't have that much time to wait. As I said my clock is ticking!! 1 HoustonTexanFan reacted to this
kjordan83 65 Posted July 12, 2013 I'm right there with you ladies! I'' 11 days post-op and I'll be 30 this year. My husband and I tried for 5 years. I was diagnosed with PCOS and Insulin Resistance about 10 years ago, so we knew the difficulty we were facing when we began trying. When we started fertility testing and treatments, we learned that my husband has very few, very low quality swimmers. That was a shocked! All those years, we thought it was just me. We have never stopped trying, but we adopted our precious girl from CPS 3 years ago. My doc said to wait 18 months. I REALLY want to be at goal weight before I have the possibility of getting pregnant. Like everyone else, doc wants me using BC, but I don't want anymore hormones... I just ordered our FIRST BOX OF CONDOMS! I felt like a dirty teenager ordering them online! Never used them before! Do y'all think that's okay?!?! P.S. I didn't do get sleeved solely to get pregnant, but the possibility was definitely as decision-making factor! I did this so I can live a long, healthy, active life with my precious little family! If God grants us a birth child, we'll be ready for it! 1 MrsRaychJ reacted to this
mandyrenee82 59 Posted July 12, 2013 We never used condoms either but I have reactions to latex. I really don't want my who-ha on fire. LOL. my cousin got pregnant with an iud so that worries me too. I didn't have this surgery to just get preggo. I have health issues that have basically almost resolved themselves in the short time I've had surgery. No more insulin and my bp meds cut in half. I feel better than I have in years. Healthier me = healthier baby and pregnancy.
tqmeri30 17 Posted July 15, 2013 Sucess story.............Hello everyone I want to tell me story..I was told I had pcos since I was 18, im now 30. Me and my hisband have been trying to have baby for over 9 years with no luck. I took clomid ( fertility drug) and went to several specialist. I got married when I weight 145 and years later got to 200. It may not seem like much but im short 5'1. I only had one period per year which was not normal. My pcos symtoms were awful. Well in the last five years I had three failed IVF's ( artificial insimination ) with no luck at at...... my doc did say my over weight was a factor. Well to make things worse I also had a tube blocked. My little chances were cut down to 50% . I decided to have the sleeve last year in Oct 02 2012. Im currently 9months post op. After the surgery I hardly had any sex.....maybe like three times after six months post op. In April I had lost 55 lb, I was down to my old self when I first got married. That month I got pregnant. How, I have no clue ,pure miracle. Im currently 14 weeks pregnant and feeling great. I had also started taking metformin during that time. Although I would forget for days to take it. I think I took it for like a month or so.
tqmeri30 17 Posted July 15, 2013 Forgot to mention...I got the sleeve not to get pregnant, but because I had given up on getting pregnant. I wanted to get healthier and feel better about myself. For the first time I was doing something selfish. I wanted to take care of me for once.
