Pouch Dilation?

Recommended Posts

Can a slip or pouch dilation heal on its own? If so, how and how long usually? Not long ago I had a bad episode with a hot dog and vomited 5-6 times and couldn't get even liquids down that night. Anyhow, I went on liquids for a couple of days and I was fine. Do you think it healed on it's own? I have had several more pb's but, I typically do fine if I chew and eat slowly? Any reason for concern? Thanks, Julia

Oh no honey. Not even. You are so recently banded. Follow your surgeon's instruction carefully. Pouch dilation usually happens from long term "pouch packing" aka overating.

As far as restriction, you won't truly feel or have restriction until you've had several fills. I like most people I've talked to didn't have restriction until at least 4 or 5 fills. This surgery takes lots and lots of patience and discipline. Just be real careful not to eat more than about a cup to a cup and half but for safety, double check with your surgeon because I think it depends on the size of your band/pouch.

Right now you just have a band around your stomach which has created a small pouch. The band hasn't been "tightened" yet. You most likely have some swelling in the area of the stoma but don't count on feeling restriction until you've been filled.

And most of all.... PLEASE don't overeat because that could cause you to dilate your little pouch. I did that and my symptoms were really bad heartburn and total loss of restriction after I had 5 fills and good restriction.

Keep reading up on the "rules" and follow your doctor's instructions.

GOOD LUCK and take care of your new little belly.

You most likely have some swelling in the area of the stoma but don't count on feeling restriction until you've been filled. You're doing good with chewing your food really well. Can't emphasize that enough. If you don't chew it really good you will get "stuck" and have awful chest pain for a few seconds until it passes and sometimes you'll have to slime it back up which is dangerous for your stomach.

And most of all.... PLEASE don't overeat because that could cause you to dilate your little pouch. I did that and my symptoms were really bad heartburn and total loss of restriction after I had 5 fills and good restriction.

For now, all you do is study, learn, and pretend you ahve restriction, pracitcing eating like a bandster when in reality, you ahve your old habits and cravings. You won't be perfect. You're just waiting for your fills.

I had pouch dilation awhile back, and after much soul searching, I found that it was due to being too tight in the mornings, and even liquids were sitting too long before they would go through. I had thought I needed another fill because I could eat way too much, but it was because I had a large pouch in which the food would just sit! Several days of liquids corrected it. I had to decide whether to get a slight unfill or change my morning habits. I now very slowly sip my morning shake...the pouch seems to be fine, but I still might do a slight unfill. Pouch dilation is something you don't want, but if you get it, you want to catch it fast so it doesn't become permanent. I caught mine because I thought I need ed a fill and the nurse saw it on the fluoro.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
