Is it normal 15 months out from surgery...

Recommended Posts

Recently (last month or so) my stomach has really been gurgling loud

and often. I mean LOUD and like all the time. When I get up in the

morning it starts and only calms down a little during the day while I

am

getting food and Water in I guess. It has just started and it is really

loud and my stomach seems very active to me. Also I have started

noticeing a bad taste in my mouth because I have been burping a little

more too. And a lot of the time some liquid pops up with it. (reflux?)

I

am not eating different foods than before or anything. Do you think it

is normal or is it a sign of something more serious like a slip,

erosion, pouch/esoph. dialation? I have no pain. Only very little with

the reflux

My stomach is pretty loud (shoulda heard it yesterday, sheesh), but I don't have the reflux issues. It sounds like reflux to me... you should probably get it checked out. I have heard of reflux being symptoms for lots of things, but most basically it could be a symptom of being a bit too tight. How sudden was it that this started?

Hope you get some relief!

I don't remember it comming on all of the sudden. I just started noticing the noises more and more. As for the reflux that did start all of the sudden. 25th I had a throw up issue. (darn chocolate covered cherry) I was fine the 26th and all night the 27th but woke up that night with horrable heart burn and since then I have had little refluxing now and then during the day. Mainly only when I lay down.

I had girgling at 18 months post op..thought nothing of it..then had an endo and found I was eroded and a severe case of gastritis. . You might want to ask your doctor about this. My Dr. reccomends an endo at 15 -18 months post op. I know of another bandster who had the gurgling andshe too was eroded. Dont want to scare you just giving you my scenario with my gurgling.

I gurgle...ALOT but i just had an endoscopy and they said nothing was wrong. Of course I had to call and ask for the results and then a receptionist got back to me so now i'm wondering how reliable this is. However my band seems normal and i've pretty much always gurgled.

What other symptoms did you have to know if you were eroded? Didn't you have any other pain? My reflux has backed off quite a bit but still there and annoying leaveing a bad taste in my mouth. What did they do to repair the erosion?

Hi,

My stomach makes the loudest and most annoying noise and more so since I lost weight and had plastic surgery. A lot has to do with the extra air I swallow when I eat and the fact that the digestive process is a little different than normal because of the restrictive nature of the band. food is slowing going through to the lower stomach from the upper pouch and I beleive that your stomach and digestive tracks work a lot harder and as a result, the noise. I am not eroded and recently had an endoscopy which shows everything is fine, but the noise is unbelievable. I also think it has something to do with change of diet. I eat more Beans, lentils, drink more Decaf tea etc and my stomach doesnt like these foods, but I do.

I would go to the doctor to get this checked, that's how my awful episode of stomach irritation began. When in doubt, I will go to the doctor from now on.

Angie,

You are probably just a little too tight. A few drops out should do the trick.

When you had to have your band removed, did you gain your weight back? I have worried so much about band erosion. Does Inamed pay for the removal or replacement? I was just curious. Thanks

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
