2 night hospital stay

Recommended Posts

Is 2 nights in the hospital mandatory!? I know here in the states the procedure is sometimes done as a same day outpatient procedure! Just trying to figure things out thanks!

I had the surgery in California. I was operated on on a Wednesday night and discharged Friday afternoon.

It is not required for most people....some get discharged the same day...but my doc kept me two nights because I lived over 200 miles away and he wanted to keep me for the just in case. It isn't to bad....take advantage of that pain pump! :) good luck!

My dr keeps his patients in 4 nights as a minimum. It's a pretty big op and I wouldn't go anywhere near a doc who thought it ok to do this as a day procedure. It is v similar to a resection done for stomach cancer, and patients are kept in at least a week for that.

It depends on your surgeon. While many doctors in the US opt to perform it as outpatient surgery, I'm not familiar with any doctors in Mexico that allow you to leave the hospital the same day as surgery. My doctor required the 2 night hospital stay AND the 2 nights at a local hotel. They weren't negotiable, as he felt that was/is the time required for patients to recover enough to travel safely.

Do not try to cut it short! I was relieved to have two nights in the hospital. Accept it, and don't think you can do this as a weekend trip and go back to work. Commit the time for healing!

Frankly, I feel safer knowing I'm going to be in the hospital for 2 nights. I think if there are going to be any major complications, they're going to occur within the first 48 hours. My Doc also gives antibiotics prophylactically so there is less of a chance of infection.

I will stay in the hospital 2 nights but I have planned to cut my trip short by only staying in the hotel one night instead of two.

Ahhhaa this is what I meant, cutting the hotel stay short not the hospital! My bad, so is this based on how you feel or do you just tell them you don't want to stay 2 days!?

What about accommodations the 2-day hospital stay for family/friend member ? Do they provide a place where they can sleep? Any feed back would be helpful. Thanks - Karen

Two nights in hospital and one required in hotel, but we stayed longer because we were having so much fun.

Most all the facilities in MX have sleeper beds and bedding for your companion.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
