whats best for heartburn at 12 days from surgery?

I have been getting heart burn in the evening. I had surgery 12 days ago and am not sure what I can take for it. Ddo you think peptobismol is safe?

My surgeon requires his patients to begin taking Prilosec day 8 of surgery every day thereafter for 6 months.

I would go with Maalox for instant relief. But you need to take an over the counter daily PPI like omneproprazole (sp?) to help with acid reflux until you and your tummy work out a system. You may also be drinking too much, too fast and that is causing your heartburn. Take longer breaks between sips for awhile. Your new tummy is still swollen and you need to take it slow. Good luck!! Yup. Maalox and Prilosec. Also, eating one or two bites every hour helps reduce the acid.
