Just joined like 4 minutes ago but have been creeping awhile! Just had VSG on July 3. So far so good. Still on clears until Thursday which is now getting rough! My name is Danielle I am 37 with 2 small kids and a hubby, 2 cats, 2 fish and a dog. I am a labor and delivery nurse and I love my job. Was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes about 10 months ago and that's when I made up my mind about WLS. Diabetes is scary and I want it gone! Been on every diet and exercise program known to man kind. Struggled with weight my whole life always known as fluffy or big boned. My highest weight was 248 at 5'5. I have already lost 10 lbs since Wednesday but am having a horrible time getting my Protein Shakes in. On Thursday ill be able to mix them with more than just Water so I know it will get easier. Thank God for boards like this. Thank you for sharing your very inspirational stories! I hope to be one of them to someone else one day!!!!

like you (and many many OP here on the board)lots of diabetics on the board

one of the BIG reasons people want to get healthy, losing their weight and getting off insulin/meds

pretty shortly after WLS doc took me off insulin and meds, couldn't have been happier :)

come back here with more questions

or just enjoying reading the board (adding your comments)and gathering all the information you can get

take care

continued good luck

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
