I am four weeks PO today, and for the past week I am constantly hungry. I know most people say they are never hungry so I am confused. Anyone else?

I'm only a week post-op and I'm almost always hungry. :(

Could be excess stomach acid that "feels" like hunger.

Are you taking a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), such as omeprazole (Prilosec)? If not, perhaps talk to your surgeon about trying that first to see if it helps. Then if it doesn't resolve, investigate further.

Some days my appetite is pretty high and some day I have very little appetite. I do agree that some times hunger could be excess acid and A PPI does help.

Good luck

A second vote to check into a PPI. You won't necessarily feel the burning you'd associate with reflux or heartburn. The first sign is that rumbly, unsatisfied tummy.

I'd give it a shot. It's also not uncommon for people to feel "hungry" until they're on solid foods. I never felt real hunger but by the end of my month on liquids I was desperate to chew food.

I am 7 weeks out and every meal is different for me. Sometimes I can't eat hardly much at all then other times I feel like I can eat quite a bit.

Tinahall: I am 8 weeks out and I notice the same thing. I sit down to eat a delicious meal, and boom -- 4 bites and I am done! I bring a lot of food home. It's such a surprise sometimes. Oh well, wouldn't trade my old life for my new one.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
