Hello guys!

I had surgery on may 21st. I had a follow up appointement today and asked my surgeon the bougie he used on me. He said he used a 60 bougie! OMG!!!!! That’s so big…right? I hear people talking about a 23 bougie. Im so sad…He also said that my stomach will be able to hold 9-10 oz. Is my stomach too big? Should I be worried that my weight loss wont be good?

Thanks!

Your weight loss will be exactly what it will be...focus on your Protein, fluids and exercise, and the weight will come off! 9-10oz may seem big, but it's still a helluva lot smaller than you used to be able to eat!

If you trusted your doctor to do this, continue to trust. Sometimes we read things on here or other places around the internet that freak us out, question ourselves, etc. - choose not to let them.

I'm unable to post a link to it but do a search here on vst for "picture of bougie size comparison". Not sure where it came from but if this picture is correct The differences in size really seem to be miniscule.

LSG results in significant weight loss in the short term. When stratifying outcomes by bougie size, our results suggested that a bougie size of 40F compared with 60F does not result in significantly greater weight loss in the short term. However, longer follow-up of the primary LSG group is required to determine whether a difference becomes evident over time.

This was on a web site for a study on boogie size. Hope it makes you feel better!

The size difference is not that great, sounds bigger than it is. I found this comparison chart online.

Don't worry.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
