Has Anyone Managed To Keep Surgery Completely Private?

Recommended Posts

I have! Well y'all and my hospital staff are the only people who are aware of my surgery. I mean I keep my mouth shut, zip. I always been accused of being private so I guess it is so.

I am extremely private person and I don't tell anyone my business so the sleeve was no different. I'm 7 weeks post op and only my husband knows. I didn't tell my daughter, parents, siblings, friends NO ONE!

Hello! Only my hubby and 1 close friend knows. I told them I went in the hospital because I had ulcer surgery. It was a great cover-up! I didn't want to be judged or asked a bunch of questions by anyone. Best of luck to you!

Marfar-That IS Melissa McCarthy! From Gilmore Girls. I'm not brave enough to post my own picture- yet!

Thanks everyone!! I really love reading these stories.

I ADORED her on Gilmore Girls. I'm so happy she's finally getting attention, but those of us who loved GG can say "we knew her when"!

In answer to your original post, it wasn't until I went to one of the support group meetings that I even second guessed my having told people my plan. It never occurred to me that I'd be judged for my decision. I'm so naive

I'm not going to wear a t-shirt saying "Ask me about my WLS", but I won't shy away from questions. I fought to get healthy for too long. I find nothing to be embarrassed about in my need for help. I am a victim of my geneology and crappy metabolism.

That's my story and I'm sticking to it :)

Yep, I have kept it a secret...no family, no friends, no coworkers...no one, but my drs know about my wls. My health is my business. I didn't want to worry anyone nor did I want anyone to know I had it to be candid. I have been very successful with WW in the past, so everyone thinks I am doing it for the gazillionith time with WW & the gym (which I truly do both every week!)

I only told my hubby, my son & his wife, and the HR director at work(to get the time off). I told them I didn't want anyone else to know, and they've been very good about it. I am a slow loser so no one else at work has figured it out, they just think that I've been very good at my latest diet- because I was always on a diet.

My husband knows of course. I've told my son, daughter in law and other son. The other 4 don't need to know and if I find out someone has talked ill be uber upset.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
