From what i have understood the liquid pre-op is to shrink the fat around your liver making the surgery safer. I guess every surgeon is different. Mine also requires a 2 week liquid diet

I am on day 6 of my 2 week liquids. I am having a hard time drinking the Protein Drinks right now. My hunger pains are not as high as days1-3. I am literally forcing myself to get the 60 grams of Protein Drink in and reach the 800 calorie intake he wants during this time frame. I do get the 64 ounces of Water in with no problem. I see my surgeon today so hoping he can get me back on track with this liquid Pre-op diet.

How r u doing? im on day 5 of the liquids 5 Protein shakes a day im still feeling hunger. Any suggestions

Just know that this and the post op "diet" are done for a reason. It's hard! I know but the purpose of it is to get your body ready for surgery.

As for the post op diet I see a lot of people that want to "cheat" on that.. It is not a diet in place to lose weight. It's to let your stomach that has been cut apart and stapled back together again heal.

It's all a challenge yes! But you will be so happy you did it. Hang in there you can do it :)

The higher the BMI-- the longer your liquid pre-op diet should be. Surgeon's who do not require the pre-op diet are most likely not at a bariatric standard of excellence center. Be happy your doc ordered it. He knows what he is doing. Don't cheat. This will also help mentally prepare you for the post-op phase.

I asked my doctor's office if I would have to do the two week pre-op diet and was told no. When I asked why not, I was told that it all depends of you BMI. I plan on doing at least 2-3 days of liquids before the surgery so that I can get used to having only liquids for a while.

I was told the same thing that most people are replying here, from my doctor. The amount of time on a liquid diet is determined by your BMI. Just follow doctors orders and you will do fine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
