life is so much better without the crapband!

Recommended Posts

Even with all the post sleeve complications, I feel 1,000% better without the crapband. It is so nice not to choke or vomit up anything that goes in my mouth!

I was thinking this last night as I pulled off my slightly tight around the waist size 16 jeans. Three months ago (not that I could have worn them 3 months ago....) I would have been running around all day with my pants unzipped because they would have been pushing on my port, and that HURT!

That is so true about pushing on the port not mention when my port migrated slightly under my rib cage. Ouch!

Looking forward to that myself. Next Tues at 8am. I'm a little nervous, however. Either that it won't work or i can't do my part in the equation.

So nice to hear you guys say this! I'm nervous about being sleeved even though I hated my lap band. Those of you that have been sleeved, is the restriction or "full feeling" different than with the band?

That's still a bit of a hard one for me. I seem to feel overfull about 10-15 min after I finish. I probably need to cut back on my portions. That said, I'm sitting here eating my brunch. 1 egg blended with a little Water scrambled with some chopped onion, some chopped bacon and grated Swiss cheese. (Quiche scramble). I just got up and measured, it's a little less than 1/2 a cup. And I will feel stuffed in 20 mins.

I think my main problem right now is eating by the clock instead of hunger... Or finishing what's on my plate because I can, not because I'm still hungry.

With the band I would get the tight throat feeling and know I needed to quit. I think I need to retrain my brain.

This feeling is so much different for me. It really is more of a feeling of being satisfied than being over stuffed. It is really hard to explain the difference but it is so much better. I no longer have the constant drive to eat or hungry that I had with the band. I feel like the sleeve helps me control myself. I never felt in control of my appetite with my band.

I never felt in control of my appetite either. I was always hungry. I'm really hoping that I don't feel that way with the sleeve. food was always on my mind with my band. I think I'm more nervous about this surgery though bc it's so permanent. It's freaking me out some.

I freaked out too. That's normal. But this is an entirely different wonderful world!

My post op problems are directly related to the lapband damage the previous surgeon had done. My case is definately not the norm and yes I would get the band out and sleeve all over again. If I could I would have gotten the sleeve and never got the lapband. I'm only 11 days post op so I'm still sore, still have external staples, and am on the liquid Soup phase. I know this will pass soon.

I hope when you're feeling better you due that surgeons ass! What he did to you seems purposeful or at the very least, highly negligent.

I love that - "crapband". LOL. I will have to use that from now on, but you can have the original copyright :) I never had a normal band experience, but my mom (who loved hers until it prolapsed and she was sleeved) has told me that her sleeve feels like her best lap band fill, but every day, I guess that band "sweet spot" some of the lucky few get. And she and I agree that the drive to eat is much less (thanks I am sure to the less ghrelin production) and when we feel full, we don't feel like the food is stuck in our throat, but rather just an overall sensation that even one more bite will make us uncomfortable and potentially nauseous. I SWEAR this is how my naturally thin friends discuss their sensation of fullness. So I am feeling normal for once!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
