Hello all, I'm getting ready for work but I had to ask you all a question: did everyone start exercising right after they got back home or did you wait to lose a significant amount of weight before exercise. I'm asking because I'm walking during lunch and on my way home but my weight loss is slow(no complaint cos I couldn't have lost that on my own). But I know someone that dropped 50lbs before they started their exercise. Should I sign up at the gym or what? I'm just doing it the simple and cheaper way: walking.

I didn't have the energy to do much exercise for the 1st 6 weeks. I only do power walking now at 6 months. I know from past experience that I won't go to the gym - it's 30 minutes to the nearest gym and I have to drive through some of the heaviest traffic in my area to get there.

There are always places nearby to walk. I've even done laps around the parking lot at my Walmart before going in to shop. That's a damn BIG parking lot :-P

I have a yellow stretchy thing with handles I got from Walmart to do bicep/tricep curls, delts and rows for toning my arms and shoulders. There are plenty of videos on Youtube that can show you how to workout at home using just your bodyweight. Just Google "bodyweight exercise" and lots of videos should pop up. Then, when you know how much you can do, you can transition to the gym if you want.

I lost 50lbs preop by walking. You don't have to sign up at a gym to walk but it makes it convenient (takes away the "too hot", "too rainy", too anything excuses).

What you need to be mindful of is that heartrate. If you're out there just strolling that isn't going to get your heartrate up enough. You don't have to run or even jog.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
