Melbournian sleevers are letting the page down!

Recommended Posts

So I noticed every other states sleevers threads are still going but Melbourne's keeps dying out. I'm really finding it difficult to find anyone with the same surgeon or even in Vic!

What I want you all to do (if you want) is to populate the below and hopefully it will keep us all in touch and encourage each other. And of course feel free to write anything else you want.

Ill start.

Surgeon: Mr Ray McHenry

Surgery Date: May 7 2013

Surgery weight: 110kg

Current weight: 95.3kg

I'm sure there are many more of us from Melbourne but most probably just get on and read without posting.

I unfortunately never posted but found this place very helpful.

Very good sounds like you have done very well.

I had mine with Dr Geoffrey Draper at Mornington on May 4th this year.

Was 120kg and am now 87kg and feeling very good.

Went through a rough time first couple of weeks but only gets better after that.

That's fantastic. I exercise only 3-4 times a week but don't lose as quickly as you. Maybe I need to step it up!

You're doing fine no need to go nuts and not always good to lose to quickly. I wasn't trying to lose that quickly it's just a result of having an obsession with crossfit and I also have a physical job.

As long as you're eating well and doing 3 to 4 days of any sort of fitness you enjoy it will all happen for you.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
