Im 29 years old i wieght 283 lbs and 5'2".

I was schedule for the gastric sleeve march 29th 2013. On March 25, 2013 I was having very painful abdominal pain, the following morning I went to the er, I was there for about 9 hours to have the dr. Tell me I was about 10 days pregnant. ( my husband and I have been trying for about 7 years to get pregnant the drs have been saying im not ovulating because of my wieght) I was so excited... but that meant no sleeve. I have been doing the liquid diet and only had 4 days until surgery. I lost 11 lbs.

April 2, 2013 the pain was back with vengeance and I was schedule for an ultrasound that day anyways so I just waited until my appointment. Well come to find out I was having an ectopic pregnancy and it burst in my tube and I needed emergency surgery. I have never had surgery in my life and I thought that any surgery I would have would be the sleeve.

So I had the surgery it took me 9 weeks to recover. The Dr. Had to cut me open do to losing a lot of blood. In the high note I was able to get pregnant!

Im all healed now and rescheduled for surgery July 19, 2013 im 4 days in to the liquid diet now and so anxious but scared the pain was horrible from the other surgery, im worried the sleeve is going to be hurt as bad.

I have a very low pain tolerance, can anyone describe the pain so I can get some sort of idea on what to expect.??

First I want to say how sorry I am for you having to go through an ectopic pregnancy. I am an ultrasound tech, so I am very familiar with ectopic pregnancies. There is no comparison between having emergency surgery for a ruptured fallopian tube and scheduled surgery for the VSG. The emergency surgery is so much more of a shock to your system, and since they had to do an open surgery (rather than laparoscopic) it is a much more involved and extensive surgery. I won't lie, the VSG was uncomfortable and I had some pain with my incisions, but most of that was gone in a week. I took a bit longer to feel "back to normal" than most, but I'm 6 weeks post surgery and feel pretty good most of the time. The most important thing you can do is follow your doctor's instructions to the "T" and drink all the Water and Protein Shakes that they tell you to do post surgery!

So sorry hun! sounds like you have been thru a lot. I have not had the surgery yet so I can't tell you how the pain is, but based on reading others stories I can see that they all vary and everyone is different. I'm guessing since you had to go in for emergency surgery they had to completely cut you open which is why the pain was so high. During the sleeve, it is almost always done laprascopically which will decrease the pain and healing about 80-90%. There is a huge difference between being cut open and just having small incisions. I'm sure you will do great, take advantage of those pain meds while your in the hospital thats why they are there :) I never heard of someone complaining about the pain while using the meds. Think positive :)

I'm sorry to hear about your ectopic pregnancy. Since that surgery was open, open is so much more painful, and I too am a wuss when it comes to pain. I cannot imagine the pain would be anywhere near with laparoscopic surgery. Good Luck!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
