Am I being vain by not doing the surgery only because of the Hair loss side effect? I have thin hair to start that I'm very self conscious about already. If I have the surgery, I'm terrified I'm going to be bald. That's my only fear.

If you have health issues related to your weight then it is vain to put your hair before your health...If you can lose on your own without this surgery than you can have both health and hair :) I however could not lose and keep it off without this surgery and the Hair loss is only temporary:) Wigs can be awesome and I would wear one in a heartbeat if necessary but this is just my 2 cents...

My thoughts:

What is more important in your gut---?

To be healthy or thinner?

Or to have the hair you have now?

I was worried too- I was sleeved feb 25th and I'm 75 lbs down-- it was soooo worth it!

I've list hair- quite a bit-- but being able to wear clothing 4 sizes smaller already ... Very worth it and worth the trade off

I don't think its a matter if vanity-- exactly... It goes back to what's the MOST important for u? Sometimes the thing we are scared to do.., is the right choice....

Good luck!

Start now on multi-Vitamins, Vitamin D capsules 2,000-4,000 IUs, Vitamin E capsules, Biotin and Omega 3 Fish Oils 2,000-2,500 mg. My hair has been thinning for years, but I was able to stop it with Vitamins. I also use Revita Shampoo and conditioner.

Since my surgery, no hair loss!

Vain? Maybe. Crazy? Yes! The hair comes back! Plus, you may not even lose it! It's worth the risk if you ask me.

I understand where you are coming from. I have pretty severe Hair loss even before surgery and I think that a lot of people who are coming into surgery with a full head of hair don't really understand what those of us with severely thinning hair already feel like.

Honestly, it was my biggest concern, pre-op. It was what made me have a lingering doubt of whether I really want to do it or not.

But I decided there are ways around hair loss, but this really seems to be the only weight loss option that is going to work for me. Before surgery I made an appointment with the Hair Prosthesis Institute in Nashville (you may want to see if there is something similar near you) and resolved that I may have to get a hair piece or a wig and I'll be okay with that. I'm going to look a lot better down 100 or so pounds and wearing a hair piece than I am at my pre-surgery weight and naturally thinning hair anyway!

So please don't let hair loss get in your way of this decision. I truly do understand where you are coming from and completely sympathize -- but the hair situation can be dealt with, it really can.

Thanks all! I have 90 pounds to lose and have no weight related health issues YET. My hair became VERY thin 9 years ago after my C section, and the hair barely grew back. Had every hormone test done and nothing seems to be know what the Hair loss is from. I'm so terrified of losing more hair.

Well at least when you're lying in your coffin dead from weight-related health issues, you will have a good looking head of hair! How's that for perspective/tough love?

I have naturally long hair and at first losing my hair was a concern for me. However, I told myself if my hair falls out to the point that I look like Sinead O'Conner then so be it. I prefer to be at a healthy weight than worry about my hair. Besides the hair weave business is booming and I can just buy some. :-)

You could always look into getting a hairpiece/wig. That's what I'm doing. It's only temporary.

I have VERY thin hair, and its white too. I started taking 5000 mcg of Biotin twice a day about three months ago. I also bought a decent looking wig just in case. My surgery is July 22. Just trying to prepare ahead. Everyone, including my surgeon assure that Hair loss is only temporary. The benefits of the surgery so out way the vanity of my hair.< /p>

Thank you for the tip. I don't have a lot of hair and it is so dull and falling out.

At 32, I have significant female alopecia (darn you bad genes!!!) and I was sort of worried at first. I am 4 months out and haven't noticed major Hair loss yet, but about a month ago I got tired of looking at my scalp and bought a wig. I am now obsessed with wigs. I LOVE them!! I know it's not the solution for everyone, but since I have problems anyway I am not even worried about the hair loss. My friends and co workers love my new "hair" and combined with my weight loss make me just feel great! I don't have to style anything in the morning and only people who knew me pre-wig knows its not my real hair. If you are thin to start like me, you could always go that route for a temporary fix.

In the end, I would rather be thin and healthy and wear a wig, than continue down the path I was on...

:)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
