Was anybody unable to have an laproscopic surgery due to an enlarged liver?

Good question. I would love to know the answer to that question myself.

My surgeon had no preop diet to "shrink" the liver. He said he uses his medical training and surgical instruments to position the liver out of the way :)

I was supposed to have single incision, but had a fatty liver, so he needed to use 3 incisions but it was still laparoscopic. He did a biopsy and sent it out for tests. I was really good on my 2 week preop diet too. The only time I strayed from shakes or clears was a week before, when I had egg drop Soup.< /p>

I think a lot of that has to do with the skill of your surgeon. If they are good, they can work around the liver. Anyone who is significantly overweight will have an enlarged liver, some more than others, but still. I lost 18 pounds on my 2 week pre-op diet, and my liver was still enlarged for surgery. My surgeon was able to work around it, they use a retractor to hold the liver up and out of the way, but the surgery did take an hour longer than expected, mostly because of lack of space inside my abdomen. The surgeon was still able to do it laproscopically, he just had to be careful, and it took longer.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
