when do I get some energy?

Recommended Posts

I'm 1.5 months out, I've lost 41 pounds so far. Still, I get exhausted easily. Yes i'm eating and exercising properly and taking all my Vitamins. I'm still waiting for that "I've never felt better with all this great new amount of energy" moment to come. I actually get exhausted more easily now than before. Is this normal?

Have you talked to your doctor about your energy levels? Have you had a blood panel done to make sure that you're getting enough nutrition? You might, for example, need to take additional B-12 supplementation, or you might be running slightly anemic. It's not unusual for those of us who have been sleeved to need a bit of extra supplementation beyond a standard Multivitamin, if you aren't taking such already.

Another thought, and something that happened to me after a surgery a few years ago. I was lamenting that I was tired so easily still, and my friend said "What are you talking about? You are doing more every day than you ever used to!" Turns out that she was right. I was tired because I had just naturally picked up my activity gradually, and hadn't noticed I was actually doing more. It might not be the case for you, of course, but just putting it out there for consideration.

Good luck!

I may do a little more. Not much though. I go to my dr on the 10th. I'll be sure to ask him.

I'm 6 weeks out today and I too am waiting for some energy. I'm not tired all day every day like I was up till 2 weeks ago but I do feel like I tire out at the end of the day more than before surgery and I sure have not gained any get up and go, more like get up and do it coz you have to.

I had the same issue, so I contacted the NUT on my VSG team. She instructed me to increase my carbs by adding cooked veggies to the Soup I was eating. It did the trick for me. 2 days later I felt great.

I was really tired all the time! I went to my PCP at three months out and all my Vitamin levels were perfect.. Shockingly my thyroid levels are now in line as well (YAY) She asked me how much I'm sleeping and I told her 7.5 hours a night and she told me that maybe I just need more sleep. I told her I never needed more sleep before.. and she said "well maybe you do now- your body went through a trauma with the surgery and now it's working hard to lose weight" So now I aim for 9 hours of sleep a night and whatdayaknow, it's WORKING. Huh, go figure, more sleep cured my feeling tired all the time. Sometimes the answer is just too simple!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
