I want to thank u all for supporting me and reminding me that we all have a support system when it comes to this website. Thank u all again and I am going to have the surgery with it with out family. : )

I have a similar issue. My overweight sister thinks I am nuts! She keeps telling me that I will throw up all the time and have tons and tons of saggy skin. My BFF tells me that it is too dangerous and I should join curves again. Yet I have a torn up knee. I am due to have my surgery Aug. 10 and have just told people.

My mother is 65, has been overweight my entire life. She has diabetes, had a heart attack, and is immobile. At 35 I am morbidly obese, however, I have no health issues as if now so I decided to take action.

I was very hurt by my family and bff's reaction, but I think at times, misery likes company. My eldest sister said great, now I won't be the skinny sister anymore.

I am planning on keeping the surgery to myself since I was not prepared for such negative comments.

Just know you are doing it for yourself and that is what matters!

Greetings from Fort Woth TX...My hubby doesn't want me to have the surgery, but he just doesn't understand how difficult it is to lose weight with MANY failed diets. I am 5`8...280 and pre diabetic and have PCOS. I started seeing my surgeon in May and will be sleeved on July 29. Whether or not I have support doesn't matter. In the end, my health does. Do what's best for you!

I lost 50# once and gained back 90#.

If we share that experience, then we are in the same playing field. Otherwise, their history of dieting is akin to playing T-Ball, while I am playing in the World Series.

To be fair, both methods of weight loss have sacrifices, WLS has its own type of sacrifice. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

This is really sad, but yes I've heard it a lot. I actually stopped talking to people about it, just did all my foot work then had surgery, if they won't be supportive then it's none of their business. If they won't learn about it or take the time forget them.

This is the main reason I'm dreading telling my inlaws. You are so not alone. I keep reminding myself that this is about me and my health. I plan on telling them that I don't want criticism or for them to try to talk me out of it..I just need their support.

I was ignorant about weight loss surgery too. I probably would have had the same reaction as my family who wants to talk me out of it. That is why I only gave them two weeks notice. Unfortunately, they live 500 miles away I did not insist they come up to help me. Now I am in a quandry who will take me to the hospital and wait for me to come out of surgery. Perhaps I will give the surgeon my brothers phone number so he can call when I come out. Do you think I should still put him down as durable power of attorney. I am inclined to think yes. I confess to feeling guilty that I did not include him from the beginning. I told my sister in law that I would answer her questions tomorrow. She thinks it is a life threatening operation and that the hospital will discharge me too soon. *sigh*

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
