dmarroko 9 Posted July 8, 2013 I have really bad gerd. I am afraid that having vst will make things worse. Anyone else have this problem? Did the sleeve make it worse or better?
Nuchnuch 120 Posted July 8, 2013 I had it pre surgery and it has gotten a lot better.
jenger 22 Posted July 8, 2013 I have heard a lot of people say it gets better. So far, I am almost 4 weeks out and mine has gotten so much worse! I have been taking Nexium.
Nicolanz 1,484 Posted July 8, 2013 I've never had acid reflux until being sleeved!
No game 14,437 Posted July 8, 2013 I've never had acid reflux until being sleeved! Amen to that... Also I was under the impression that most docs would suggest the bypass if you have gerd because the sleeve can make it much worse??
Chelenka 827 Posted July 8, 2013 I had it pre-surgery and still have it post-surgery. It was worse in the beginning and has gotten less problematic. I take nexium twice a day and also recently started drinking a glass of Water with one Tbsp organic apple cider vinegar in the morning. I think that has helped alleviate the reflux a great deal. My Dr did say that if it became a serious problem for mr the fix was doing a revision surgery to the gastric bypass. I don't plan on going there. pre-surgery weight 325; surgery date 2/28/2013; surgery weight 307; 8 weeks past-op weight 281.4; 12 weeks post-op 274; 4 month post-op 266.
Aileen-March 2014 Sleeved 45 Posted July 8, 2013 My physician said my Gerd is related to my weight and I should see significant improvement after my surgery with weight loss. Maybe just an individual thing? I certainly would not want it to get worse.
Rox 200 Posted July 8, 2013 I never had gerd before I got fat. Don't know whether surgery will make it better or worse. I do not want a by-pass.
dmarroko 9 Posted July 8, 2013 I don't want the by-pass either. That's why I was asking about the gerd. My doc says the gerd gets better as you lose.
DonRodolfo 1,416 Posted July 8, 2013 I have really bad gerd. I am afraid that having vst will make things worse. Anyone else have this problem? Did the sleeve make it worse or better? My surgeon took me off my GERD meds immediately after surgery. I was taking them again within days because of frequent heartburn (which I rarely had prior to surgery). No reflux issues after surgery, but rarely had an issue with it before surgery.
