How much time to take off from work--WORRIED!

Recommended Posts

I am taking off 12 days (including weekends) for my surgery. Is this enough time? I am so worried because after taking those 12 days off i will have used most of my time up. I have already posted a question on here about how much time to take off but i guess i need reassurance if you don't mind. I don't want to postpone the date if i don't have to. I have a desk job and elevator to use too.

You'll be absolutely fine! I was back at work on Day 10 post op (desk job w/elevator use also) - other than some residual sleepiness, I was pain-free and good to go!

This will very depending on what kind of work you do. I went back to work at about 2 weeks post op and I am a paramedic, fortunately I do primarily command level instead of front line so while I had to do a little physical work that first week mostly I was doing desk and giving orders so it was fine. Good Luck.

My sleeve date was 6/26. I've been off since 6/25. My recovery is going well but I think I am going to stay home through this week (14 work days). I had to drive 400 mile each way to surgery, Dr.kept me 4 days and I am 56. I have a desk job but it is sometimes stressful. I am also short on time but thought taking it off now fully resting and getting my routine down might pay off in the long run.

I feel like I could have gone back to work today (surgery on june 28. )!But since I work in child care that isn't really possible... I can't lift on 2 year olds all day... So I'm taking a total of 3 weeks off of work total...

I ended up taking several weeks. The surgery part was no problem but being tired and weak from not eating was my problem

I had surgery on July 1st and back at my desk job today, July 8th. I think it all depends on what you do and how accommodating your job is.

I had my surgery on a Tuesday, and returned to my desk job full time the following Monday. I used 4 sick days. I felt fine. I probably could have returned on that Friday.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
