I would love it if a few fellow members could tell me where they started their journeys. I am not sure if it is with a GP or the selected surgeon or ????? For me the sooner I can have it the better I will like it. Please if any of you could help I would appreciate it.:think :think :think :faint:
TracyinKS 7 Posted January 2, 2007 1. Are you insured or are you self pay? 2. If self pay, you just need to find a surgeon you like, attend a seminar, and get going. 3. If you have insurance.. you need to find out if WLS is covered. Start with the HR person at your company. If they don't know, have them ask their corporate office. 4. IF it is covered call the insurance company to find out what is required. READ, READ, READ this board.. I know I have found SO MUCH INFO! I am going through the process right now too... so you are not alone.
barb12211958 0 Posted January 2, 2007 My insurance company pays for it They are saying I need to go to the doc and get a cofirmation letter and have it faxed to them. The insurance has other requirements. I am so confused where to begin..Anyway Thursday I have an appointment with the GP.. I am hoping she knows the next steps. I thought someone here has already traveled thr redtape and could enlighten me. Good luck to you
shutuplena 0 Posted January 2, 2007 I went straight to a surgeron who specializes in Bariatric Surgery. I didn't have to see my GP until my clearance for surgery was required.
juliegeraci 7 Posted January 3, 2007 Hi Barb, my journey actually started 2 years ago . I weighed in at 320 lbs. Prior to my lapband surgery in June I had lost 40 lbs on my own. I was banded June 6th with Dr. McKeen here in San Jose, CA. I am happy to report that I am down another 34 lbs. My goal is to reach another 7 lbs. That will put me at 1/2 way (from 282 lapband to 241) to my goal. If you are researching surgeons just make sure they have done hundreds of lapbands. I heard of one person who used a surgeon who was new and had a really rough time. Best or luck to you. It is so exciting. Keep us posted. Congrats.
barbara465 2 Posted January 3, 2007 I went straight to the lapband doctor. Most have you attend a seminar. I never had to see my GP or get their permission. My insurance took my records from the lapband doctor. Good luck
